As my username implies, I am an ex-printer.

Unfortunately my business has closed down and I have been selling the equipment.

My Odystar was connected to a Highwater Python CTP. The CTP unit has been sold but the purchaser had their own RIP and didn't want the Odystar RIP/workflow.

The reason for sale is not a reflection on the product - it worked sensationally well, was very stable and saved one whole pre-press operater when it was installed. I would not hesitate to keep it if I was starting up again.

There are not that many Odystar installations in Australia, so I am offering my licence for sale around the world. After all, the sotware can be downloaded from Esko and it will be very easy for me to send the dongles anywhere - with insurance in place!

If anyone is interested, I will speak to Esko about how the transfer can be done.

People be warned, you will not be able to "trade up" to Odystar 4. You wont even be able to update to any versions because dongle transfer is not allowed for free. DOn't know what the price is to transfer licenses but it is not cheap. Best call Eskoartwork first so you arent wasting your money.

Friends of ours bought Artpro dongles and were very pissed when they found the the transfer price was about the same as the software cost.

What is this? Have I asked for ANY money?

Do I think any members of this forum would be stupid enough to transfer money to somebody in Australia without Esko being on board? Of course not!!!!!!!!

Read my posts - if there is anybody who is interested I WILL SPEAK TO ESKO!!!

This MIGHT be a chance for somebody to save some big $ - if they are interested.

BTW, I have been told by Esko in Australia that the licence transfer is <Euro1,000. I also know there is a cost to upgrade to version 4 - which you CAN do if you have a 2.6 licence.

The math is simple: If the my 2.6 licence + transfer fee + version 4 upgrade is $'000s less than a 'new' version 4 licence, there is a deal to be done - BUT ONLY IF ESKO AGREES.

Odystar is not well known in Australia, but all who use it know it is a fantastic product.

Is Odystar same thing as Nexus?

Odystar is not the same thing as Nexus. Nexus was originally a ArtPro and raster RIP and then the PDF RIP was added onto it. Screening can be done in Nexus

Odystar is completely a PDF RIP and from what I know, the screening can't be done in Odystar. You would need a separate RIP for Screening.

I just accepted a job and they have Odystar. I don't see anyone correcting this post. IS IT true that odystar doesn't RIP screened files. I am assuming they are using something but it seems a little far fetched that Odystar would be called a RIP and not do screening. Please reply

When we had Odystar we had to send the imposed PDF's back into Nexus for screening. But I do believe they have the screening option for Odystar but we didn't need it since we already had Nexus.

When we switched to Prinergy we were also told by Esko/AWS that we could not give away, sell or transfer our existing NexusEdit dongles so I assume that applies to any of their software/dongles.
