poly to metal

recently picked up a ryobi 524H and looking to upgrade CTP system. Currently running AB Dick DPM2340 which cannot make plates for 14 x 20 press.
Interested in going chem free metal. talked w/ Presstek (Vector) but is in the >$50K range. Heidelberg steered me toward Prosetter 52. Found a used one w/ new RIP for $25K but currently the violet systems are chemistry based. Am told chem free violet is coming but noone can say when realistically it will happen. The Prosetter has an internal punch which is a bonus, but not sure about taking the chance w/ a violet system. Our goal is to be chem free. Any reasonable priced systems out there Metal chem Free <$35K?? Another option is to pick up a used AB Dick 2508 poly to make the bigger plates, but that is poly and cannot be chem free.

ECRM and Printware have violet metal plate systems that can be operated as Chem Free. I don't think you will be able to find a new system for under $35K unless you looked at one of the inkjet systems like iCtp or Jetplate.

You might be able to get a rebuilt ECRM or Printware unit for closer to your target price. With the current economic conditions everyone is looking to reduce inventory start using your negotiating skills and see where it takes you.

You should be able to pick up a used 2508 for next to nothing and they are really good machines. If the laser goes, that is big bucks to replace. Also, you have to factor in that Presstek killed off the 2508 around 3 years ago as it competed too well with their own systems so long term support is an issue.

We had a meeting with an Agfa supplier last week and was told that chemistry free violet plates would be generally available in the summer and that all new Palladio II's have the necessary more powerful 60mw laser. I think a new Palladio II will be out of your price range. If you can get a used one (or old dealer stock), I understand that they can be upgraded to the 60mw laser, but I would expect that to be a pretty expensive upgrade.

You might want to look at www.glunz-jensen.com. It is in your price range, but I don't have any experience with them. However, my material supplier said that a few people he knows has them and all seem happy about their purchase.

Please invest in a laser system, for your company's sake. Especially if you are on a tight budget, the inkjet CTP device will cost you more in the end, read all about the Injet CTP machines in this forum.

You can get a great quality used system (printware, ECRM), that will be fast, efficient and the best quality for your 30-35k. Actually with the Printware system, they have some excellent sales incentives going on. I can give you a contact name if you like. I do not represent or sell their product but I have worked with the Vanguard group for a few years.
Send me an email....

In today's economic climate you must make solid and sensible decisions.

Just some advice...:)
