Hi Al, first post here be gentle.

After scanning a sheet with Bodoni press sign it shows our primarys are out on press (hiedelberg cd74) what should I be telling the minder to adjust/look for first ?

In what way are they "out"?

Sorry, they are high by about 3.0 delta e on the m & y ?

Sorry to be crude about it but your lack of specificity suggests that you shouldn't be telling the minder what to adjust/look at all.

Check your densities, what are they? Just one job, all jobs? New stock? Yellow being high dE, too thin of ink film and optical brighteners coming through?

Jimmy, give us more to work on.

And just a side point....why isnt the printer doing his own scans. Probably more helpful for him to scan and adjust as he prints that for you to be coming back to him later....

Jimmyc, did you purchase the product through a vendor? Did your company receive training? Do you have a support contract or credits etc?

Although internet forums can be great and one can get a fast and knowledgeable reply, sometimes it is faster/easier to ask the people who you bought the product from.

If you did not receive any of the above and you simply purchased software only, then perhaps your company should look into purchasing training and or support, either from the vendor where you purchased the software or perhaps from some of the fine folk on this forum.

The PressSign summary window should give you some indication as to what is happening. In version 6 there is an a*b* plot that will show if you're off color, and an L* plot that indicates if you're too light, or dark. In each little pane PressSign tells you if you should increase, or decrease the ink; what the ideal density is; what it calculates your lowest possible ∆E to be, and at what density that will happen.

Hi Jim, pressSIGN will show the operator which way to move in terms of density (up or down). Note that when in Density mode, pressSIGN displays bars showing where the press is currently..a bar below the line means that your density is too low.

When pressSIGN is in LAB mode the bars will be pointed like little arrows, telling the pressman which way to move, so when your densities are too low, the arrows in pressSIGN will point UP, indicating that the pressman needs to increase his densities. These are choosable options, depending on which approach the pressman prefers. In the US, most pressmen prefer to run in density mode.

If the delta E is still out of range after the operator has reached optimal densities, this may indicate an ink problem that cannot be corrected by the pressman through density adjustments.

....And of course, I agree completely with Stephen Marsh that the very best idea is to contact Bodoni or your dealer and have them arrange some proper training: it really makes all the difference.
