problem to adress new printer through nexus rip

Hi Folks

I got a problem here. Our old proof-device (HP Designjet 2500) broke down, so we needed a replacement fast.
We bought an Epson SC-T 7000, but now I have the problem that I can´t print on it through nexus rip.
I already tried different workflows and settings, but it seems that nothing reaches the device.
I was calling the esko hotline for trouble-shooting and they told me that it´s no longer supportet to adress proof-devices through nexus and I need an additional software called Flex Proof E light.

Now I´m really pissed of, because nobody told me the support for new proof-devices will be dropped, I need another expensive software package if I want to continue proofing and the printer I just bought is not even supported.

Ok, now here´s my question:

Is there any workaround for that?
I don´t want to give any more money to Esko just to be able to print on my device.
The proofs don´t need to be color acurate, I just need form proofs in original size.

I hope somebody can help.

Thanks in advance for reading all my bitching around, but I feel better already :D

hi Andreas,

we ran into a similar problem with an HP printer that was no longer supported.
we were able to get it to work selecting another Proofer, from the same family. (i.e. Epson, HP..)

you might have to try out a few before you find the one that works best. keep in mind the max roll width your using. good luck.

Printing directy from ArtPro is not practical because the files are too big. Dimensions can go up to 1500 mm x 850 mm in 12 colors. Also the amount of prints can go up to 100 a day for 4 operators. I was also quite happy about the stitcher-function in Nexus Rip to save some paper.

@cseas
I tried every proofer I could choose in different modules. Nothing works. Even tried different workflows with different output methods.
Which HP printer do you use now?

@squirrelbones
There was no information from Esko that they dropped support for proof devices. I just verified that the printer supports the same languages like hp-rtl and hp-gl2. Had no clue that this woud be such a big issue.

hi Andreas,

we are using an HP Designjet T790. we were told it was not supported. for our workflows designed to output to a proofer, i experimented and tried to select another RTL Proofer in the "Rasterise TIFFs for RTL Device" module.
i was able to use the HP800. i also had to select the HP800 in the "Make RTL & Download" module.

these workflows were already created before i got here, so i just modified the modules.

we also have a workflow that outputs to an Epson. the module to change the proofer selection is called, "Rasterise Composite Proof", in case this is what you are looking at.

i noticed in this workflow there are a few selections for Epson proofers. i would try each one and see if any of them work. unless you have already.
(See attachment)

i hope it works out for you. we were in the same boat last year. keep an open mind. experiment. you might have to purchase the Flex Proof E light software/driver. how long have you had the printer? maybe you can also talk to Epson or the company that sold you the printer. that is a big expense. i am sure they would want to help.

good luck Andreas,
cesar

Thank you for your tips. I already tried the rtl method and the epson output as well.
Nothing works for our device.
But I found a workaround which happens to be exactly what I wanted.
I created a workflow that makes a pdf-file output and used these pdf-files with an acrobat plug-in for batch printing on a server. Runs perfectly and just cost 100 € for the plugin.
I will post the name of the plugin later, maybe there are more people facing this issue.

Thank you all for your help.

i have a similar problem , i have 4 printer in rip : sm , sorm , gto and komori , but i cant print my job directly from indesign , i export it to pdf and then print it via network to rip
