Hi All,

We purchased a BQ160PUR from Horizon after reading their brochure. We have just installed it and found that mininum PUR glue have to melt is abt 2kgs and we can not use it again because it will be dead in air. At this time, we are small binding and we do not have enough book quantity for 2kgs of PUR glue.

Has everyone here know a PUR supplier have PUR block 0.5 or 1kg?

Your help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you need a pre-melter. You put the glue block in this and it heats and dispenses the amount of glue you want. As it is not open to the air, the remaining glue is reusable. Your reseller should have discussed this with you. I'm not that familiar with open tank PUR systems (we use the Nordsen system on our PUR), but our open tank EVA uses pellet form EVA glue, so we add the amount needed that way. It may be that you can buy PUR glue in this form as an alternative, however the pre-melter would be a better solution.

Ditto ifelton's comments. You need to invest (quite heavily) in a pre-melter and PUR glue jets as the glue is pumped onto the book's spine and sides (As opposed to the EVA system whereby glue is applied via rollers. If you were to try to apply PUR glue through EVA rollers, your curing starts as soon as the glue ix exposed to the atmosphere. IIRC, Horizon does offer a "quick changeover" kit to enable the machine for both EVA and PUR.

Hello Dzung,
The PUR adhesive that Standard sells for your binder comes in pellet form, in a 1kg bag. Only a small portion is required per use. You should have received a measuring beaker with your binder. There is a level indicator in the tank as well. Also, the unused pellets can be used at a later date. Just roll the top of the bag down and wrap an elastic band around it. Should be fine for weeks, if not longer.

Hello lfelton

PUR glue is so special, if it is unpacked, it will be "dead" by air even. It is not like EVA you can cook again many times.
