What type of device are you talking about? There are very few devices that use a true HN laser.

On an imagesetter, HN (helion neon) and VRD (visible red doide) or red laser operate in the same light spectrum. IR (infra red) operates at a different light spectrum. You can see HN and VRD with the naked eye but not IR. Almost impossible to switch types of laser on machines. Also, IR film is getting harder to find.
