Ricoh C9200+C7200 v Xerox Iridesse

Anybody with direct experience running both these printers. Xerox wants to offer me an Iridesse at I believe a very good price, but not sure I want to go to that level, and somewhat higher payment than my V3100. The V3100 banding is really frustrating both visually and the calibration inconsistencies.

I also have an offer Ricoh C7210SX that is right inline with what I am paying now.

Is the Ricoh C7210SX that much better than the Versant 3100? How does it compare to the Iridesse.

I'm a xerox analyst. The Iridesse and low gloss clear provides the best results I've seen on textured stocks so far. Better than anything I've seen personally on Ricoh's latest. Also the sharpness is something to see in person. I'd go with the Iridesse because they are so reliable (I'm working with their owners all the time). Anyway just my two cents.

That's interesting to hear because I was told that they fixed the banding issue in the V3100s - We're running two V2100s and the banding issues are making me crazy.

Banding issues have never been fixed with the 3100. In fact I have other issues with the 3100 that make me wish I would have stayed with the 2100.

I haven't heard at this point if banding issues have been addressed in the upcoming 3100i.

Can you post pictures of the banding issue? We're having an issue with our Versant 180P and I hope it isn't related, but I'd like to see what you're talking about.

Id say no, Looks like you need to clean your sensors and check drums and other areas for damage or dirtiness. Those are streaks, not banding.

Hi, this shows your drums, one or many, needs to be changed. Print a 40% of each primary and you'll know.

In the Custom Paper Settings you'll find a setting called Trail Edge something. Set that to 70% and you'll solve the edge problem there. For that band, get your service tech to look at that. I don't have those.

Actually that banding is mainly developer housing with that frequency of occurrence. Having to replace them so often is the real pain with this machine and the drums have been terrible lately which makes one wonder if they are a contributing factor in developer housing failures.

But what is interesting I seem to have a good set of drums in it right now, with 60% on the counter and still looking pretty good. It has been awhile since I got that much out of drums. The 3100 probably heard all the talk about looking at other printers which I will post my experience soon when I have more time.

So Xerox is trying to unload/move Iridesse so they make me an offer even though I am barely over 24 month of 72. On months with higher volume the cost would be less than the 3100. So I am thinking I should at least look at everything. I have samples from Ricoh, Minolta, and the Iridesse.

Ricoh 7200, not sure about the condition of drums, developer housing etc. I expected the samples to be better than the 3100 but they were not. I was not impressed.

KM, I believe the 3080. I was surprised by the smoothness of these samples. Looking with a loupe I see a different dot/line screen than all the others which probably accounts for what I am seeing. Much better look than the Ricoh samples.

Iridesse, This is a friends machine that I actually ran and had the chance to try different things. Here again I was surprised but not in a good way. Banding was somewhat there but overall was very good but I expected better. K only was very good smooth wise compared to the 3100 but banding was pretty noticeable.

Our 3100. Came back and ran some tests using 150Line on that sample I posted before and had very little banding which was about the same as the Iridesse at 200Dot I had just run.

Got to thinking about the RIP situation. Since none of these were available with FS400/APPE ver. 5. like the the new Versant 4100 I really started to question if I want to go that route now and possible not be able to support PDF ver 2 down the road.

After all this I decided our 3100 can produce just as good or close to the results that of these other printers and with the apparent stolen election and the possible attempt to force marxist/socialist anti business policies on us I feel it is just not a good time to be taking risks. The 3100 can produce good results, so I am just going to force Xerox to honor their contract and provide quality parts and replace what needs replace to do so. In reality I do not need to do anything now so I decided waiting would be the best option.

The Fiery on the new V280 is a joke. Not upgrading. A 4th generation i5 with only 8 GB of DDR3? No SSD? That's literally the same as what we have now. Completely pathetic. Step it up, EFI.

Are you saying they are wanting to get you out of your 3100 and into an Iridesse at a lower cost? When the 3100 came out we wanted to know if the Xerox branded finishing could go on our 1000i. They said no, but made us a pretty good deal to get us into the 3100. Im pretty sure they wanted that 1000i out of there. It was starting to become problematic for the techs and was the only one in our service area. We had 2 cabinets worth of parts just sitting there because they got tired of never having the parts available to fix it. Plus, they want to roll over new contracts because it keeps you as an X customer longer vs letting the lease getting close to ending and other companies buying it out and putting KM or Ricoh in.

I am sure the salesman wanted his commission. If Xerox wanted me out of the 3100 I do not know. Anyway it is obviously the pencil pushers have no clue about the real world. Try to save money by making cheap crappy parts sure doesn't save money when we have to replace drums so frequently. My guess xerox wanted the books to look better and maybe wanted to move the FS350 RIPs before the end of the year. With the cost of getting out of the 3100, cost wise the slow months did not make sense and with the current political situation I am not willing to take that risk right now.
