Rip for Prosetter

I just purchased a Prosetter 74 without a rip. I know that the Prosetter uses the Platerite engine; however, the interface connections might be different.

Can I connect the rip of a Platerite 4000 to the Prosetter 74?

The PlateRite 4000 uses a different interface and plugin than the Prosetter 74.

Depending on the type of RIP you are using we may be able to sell you an additional interface card and cable that would allow you to drive the Prosetter 74 from the same RIP.

We also sell a standalone Prosetter RIP-Kit which would include everything you need to run the RIP on a standard Windows XP Professional 32 bit edition computer. You can find out more about this on the following page:

Heidelberg Prosetter RIP Workflow for Heidelberg Prosetter 52, 74, 104 Software Harlequin RIP

If you have questions just post them here and we would be glad to answer them.

kulaysep,

The Prosetter does not use the Platerite engine, it is Heidelberg's engine. Therefore the interface is different then the Platerite. Our MetaDimension rip can drive it directly or by adding a MetaShooter, you can send 1 bit tiffs to it. In this case, the MetaShooter has the software needed for controlling the Prosetter. They are a few different interface cards depending on the server used so you want to be sure you have the correct version. Your local Heidelberg rep should be able to help you with this.

OOPS! What I got is the Topsetter 74, not Prosetter.

My question should have been:
Can I connect the rip of a Platerite 4000 to the Topsetter 74?

Sorry for the blunder.

kulaysep,

Did you get a PC with the Topsetter that has sw called Topconnect? If so and you have the cables to the Topsetter, you can send a 1 bit tiff from your rip to the Topconnect. Topconnect is basically a tiff shooter and control sw for the Topsetter. Most configuration were sold this way, at least in the U.S. If not, you could use a MetaShooter and do the same. Hope this helps.

Hi Mark,

the Topsetter 74 came with just the cables. The cpu apparently got lost somewhere.

I plan to purchase an EagleRip for it. Founder has an EagleRip for the PlateRite 4000. However, their technical people have not tested it on a Topsetter; and cannot guarantee that it will work with it.

While the Topsetter uses the same engine as the PlateRite, I don't know if Heidelberg did some modification, which could cause some problems if I use a Platerite rip on the Topsetter.

Hope you can advise me on this matter.

Thanks,

Fred

Hi Fred,

I wish I could help but we were not allowed to interface to Screen workflow so I do not know if it will work. I do know that Heidelberg did change some of the components but do not know if it had anything to do with the interface. I wish you good luck!

Regards,

Mark
