Please provide information for an approximate density or density range for GRACoL 7 on Coated Paper Stock. I know this can vary somewhat, methinks, but please provide data in your experiences wth the four process colors Thank you in advance for your input.

Key________
Cyan_______
Magenta ________
Yellow ________

If you would like to additionally provide the same for Offset Uncoated and Mattes/Silks that would be seen as a bonus.

As many of you may know, X-Rite (Pantone) no longer supplies process swatches in their most recent creation. Pantone+ Plus. This is just a side note. Thanks!

These are the published classic ones for sheetfed on premium coated paper for 175 lpi measured Status T dry (not wet) the values are:
Black 1.70 Dot gain (TVI) 22:
Cyan 1.40 Dot gain (TVI) 20
Magenta 1.50 Dot gain (TVI) 20
Yellow 1.05 Dot gain (TVI) 18

best, gordo

wet readings on status T
black 1.75
cyan 1.50
magenta 1.40
yellow 1.00
these are the default numbers we have plugged into our intellitrax. We try not to deviate more than .05 up or down on any color.

The thing I find interesting is the relatively high cyan values for G7 versus say traditional SWOP.

AFAIK G7 or GRACoL 7 does not reference SID numbers, instead they target lab values.
SWOP is an input specification not a print specification. They have never, AFAIK, published target SID values. Instead, they sold a target high/low density strip that printers were encouraged to measure with their own instuments. The traditional SID values that I gave were extrapolated from, AFAIK, the press proofs that accompanied supplied ad films back in the day.

@turbobottom, unless you are running a KMCY ink sequence your SID targets for C and M are very unusual.

Best, gordo

G7 densities and dot gain values that you may see published are only 'informative'.

The process ink target values for solids are ISO-specified L*a*b* colors:
K = 15/0/0
C = 55/-37/-50
M = 48/74/-3
Y = 89/-5/93

Nominal 'informative' TVI values for #1 and #2 coated are:
K = 20%
C = 16%
M = 16%
Y = 15%

NPDC (relative) density values take precedent:
CYM/K
25% = 0.25/0.22
50% = 0.54/0.50
75% = 0.90/0.90

"Since 2006 neither GRACoL, nor SWOP nor G7 have specified solid ink densities or TVI (dot gain) values. Legacy solid densities nor TVI (dot gain) values are not longer valid" - Idealliance Printing Guidelines 2011
