Struggling newspaper asks for donations

The Tampa Bay Times with about 120 newsroom employees, in March 2020, scaled back production of its printed newspaper to two days a week in an effort to overcome advertising losses and is now asking philanthropic readers for donations to support its reporters:

 
Online popups and pay to view? Click bait?

They don't appear to have either but are relying on $10.95 USD monthly subscriptions to access their articles instead. That model, as with the majority of newspapers, doesn't appear to be working for them. Their e-edition available through an app appears to be free.
