Just curious what variable software solutions others are using for Indigo web presses.

The field seems narrow when it comes to the webs.

Thanks

You're right, Steve, the field is indeed very narrow. But I believe part of the problem lies in HP's Esko Artwork DFE, which in my experience is absolutely horrendous. Their DeskPack "variable data" software is useless compared to competing software.
My biggest grip with HP is that you must use Esko's software to generate variable data - it fails to RIP anything created with other programs, so you cannot use 3rd party software. PDF processing speed is ludicrous, PPML fails right out (although the DFE uses PPML internally...?), submitting jobs more sophisticated than simple numbering slows the RIP to a crawl, and so on ad mortem.

After a year of suffering, we replaced the Esko with an HP Production Pro DFE. Now we use SmartStream Designer for regular VDP jobs, plus a custom built piece of software that I wrote to produce very complex jobs (output as PPML files).

Hello,
It's strange for me to read discussion about what i do in my work... Actually i work with ws 4050 and i print a lot of million stickers with full variable for tracability and authantification, i can do that on 4050 because all my data is printing like a font (my job is to create font and soft to create database ...). My Compagny would like buy a ws 6600 but i don't know what is the power of production pro, my first question is to know if SNAP mode on production pro is more quicly than other solution like ppml...because HP say i can have many serveur to rip a lot of variability but it's very expansive and i think it's better to work with font... If everyone have a answer or want discuss about that, i will be happy
