VERSANT 2100 PAPER JAM ISSUE

Hello all,

The Versant 2100 will print cover weight, but when it comes to text weight it will jam after it comes out of the fuser, heading to the cooling unit - the machine says there are jams at 3A and 3B, as well as 2A-D. In addition, anything that is smaller than 12x18 will also jam regardless of paper weight. I was hoping I'd be able to push whatever is in the way out, by printing multiple pieces of cover weight paper, however, that has not been helpful. Any solutions to this issue?

Thanks!!

have you tried kicking it really hard?
This made me chuckle. We used to a have a pressman that would get really pissed when he was having press problems. One day we heard him yelling and cussing louder than usual because he got mad and kicked the press out of a fit of anger and hit his shin on a protruding step. lol

I’m a few days late to this so maybe you’ve resolved the problem. If not, could you let us know what the fault code is when it jams? I consider a jam when the paper gets stuck or destroyed along the paper path. It sounds more like the paper is stopping along the paper path because of a sensor or something in the way of the paper that keeps it from reaching the next sensor in time. It’s been a while so maybe you’ve already powered down the press and started it back up. If you cleared something from the path sometimes the press needs to be completely powered down and then restarted to reset the fault.

If you have a lot of paper dust in the press, then you should locate as many sensors as possible and clean them off. Hopefully you’ve already resolved the problem and have been up and running.

So these are the parts I replaced-

IBT belt
Fuser
Pressure roller
Stripper finger assembly

Unfortunately, I'm still continuing to have issues with the text weight paper. I'm not sure which sensors need to be cleaned. It's throwing a fault code of 077-103...

Our V4100 has multiple sensors in the paper paths that can cause shutdown when they are dirty. The main culprit seems to be the sensor above our 3 hole punch finisher - every sheet has to run through there. Regular cleaning has greatly reduced jams. YMMV

If it is not jamming with cover stock then it is probably not a sensor issue.

What condition are the de-curler rollers in? Have you observed it running with the door open? If so does the de-curler appear to be turning correctly? What you are saying seemed to be that 18" sheets are long enough to get pushed through the de-curler but shorter sheets and text weight paper need the de-curler to pull it through which maybe if failing. If that is what is going on that would probably cause the 077-103 error.

Can you post a photo of exactly where all the paper is stoped when it jams. Are they always in the same position?

Does it happen on both simplex and duplex.

When you clear a jam does the paper you removed lay flat.

"anything that is smaller than 12x18 will also jam regardless of paper weight." Does that mean first sheet through? Have you checked your paper size, and does it match your settings. You could also try custom sizes.

077-103 error is the sensor indicating that the sheet is not exiting the fuser with the correct timing which is why I suggested that the sheet is not being pulled through the de-curler or the rollers after the de-curler. It has been awhile since I have had the 2100 so I am not exactly sure about the feed rollers after the de-curler. If they are there make sure you clean them good. The de-curler and feed roller might need replaced.
