Versant 2100 Registration...

Our Versant 2100 seems to have registration issues. While they aren't terrible, the machine doesn't register nearly as well as our C75. We had service clean some sensors, and look over things, but it still seems to be causing us problems.

I am hoping other people with Versants can tell me if this is something unique to our machine, or if it is an issue with the model. Worst case the mis-register is almost a 16th of an inch. Our C75 registers so well that when we trim a lift it will split the hairline register mark all the way down the stack.

Ours is dead-on. Specs give a tolerance of 1/2mm, but, we haven't experienced that. Are you sure it's not the paper?

I have done what I can to rule out the paper. I cut some 80# gloss text and put half in our C75, and half in our 2100. The C75 had registration that was dead on, while the 2100 was varying a 16th of an inch. We are talking mis-register the 12 inch direction on a 12x18 sheet.

That's way out of spec. 1/16" is about 1.6 mm. I'd keep calling in the tech until they get it right. Could be the registration stop sensor within the machine, or, a simple tray alignment problem. Do you get that result regardless of the tray number?

So far I have not had any sheet to sheet alignment issue. Sheet to sheet color consistancy is were I really struggle with it.

At this point I am thinking we must have a problem with our register unit, because we have had poor registration, compared to our C75, since it was brand new.

Service came out and after some troubleshooting, fixed the problem by recalibrating the sensor that detects the edge of the sheet.

The machine now registers better than it ever has since it was new.

Install issues are the pits. Problem is, most of Xerox's machines are shipped, uncrated, and installed by a contracted 3rd party rigger/logistics outfit. They are just going through a set of instructions, and, most of the time, they get it wrong. The company that installed our 2100, left off the entire interface module (goes between the printer & the booklet maker). When I asked why there was still a module sitting in the box, unopened, he replied "that's the booklet-maker -- Xerox has to install that themselves...." (he had already installed the booklet maker -- problem is, he didn't know what the unit was that connects the booklet-maker to the printer).

We have had ours always delivered by a delivery crew, but the setup and install was always done by our Xerox service guys. Then we would get another Xerox guy to set up the software, and everything else plus the training.
