Versant 3100 / 4100 or Iridesse

Can anyone confirm whether you can print on NCR paper on either the Versant 3100/4100 or Iridesse machines? Is there any limitations on either machine. Would either of them be much of an upgrade coming from a Versant 280? Thanks

We print ncr on a fujifilm EC1100 which is the 4100. It was perfect running through the airfed drawers and onto the stacker but recently we are getting dog ears and then jamming inside the finisher. Escalated to second line support to see what the score is.

I have run NCR through a Versant 3100 in runs of up to 10,000 sheets and one of my friends with a V180 runs considerably larger runs. Techs have told us that NCR reduces the life of the 2nd BTRs and also leaves residue on the paper transport rollers that causes issues over time until it is cleaned off. I maintain an old C75 as the primary machine for NCR.

Hi Chrisio,
That’s interesting you say about dog earing on your ncr recently because that’s the same that has happened with me recently on my versant 280. What brand of ncr are you using? I use Reacto SRA3 size

It's currently reacto but it still happened on the xerox stuff as well. The engineer was certain it was caused by us sending the job to the stacker and not the top tray despite the first 20k of ncr we did when the machine was days old ran perfectly. It's just started to happen on standard 90gsm a3 copier paper as well so I am sure there is a fault somewhere.

Hi Chrisio,
Interesting, exactly the same thing here when we had the machine brand new 3 years ago, not a single problem until recently it was only doing it on blue bottom sheet first for me. I did have a few engineers out and they said it was the baffles causing it, so I had them replaced and it did disappear, however it still does the odd occasional one now. The other sheets I just get a really tiny bit now on my NCR. I don’t have a stacker but I run from trays 6 and 7 if I’m doing duplicate and then tray 5 if I do triplicate.

The only other material I get dog earring really bad on now is my DigiTuff waterproof plastic on 195micron. So I’m having to use the 295micron version. Again I never use to have this issue before.

Apart from that uncoated and coated stock is not a problem so far.

4100... we print NCR all the time.
keep in mind: Double Feed Detection may need turned off (lots of false positives)

speaking of double feeding, you may need to replace or clean your feed rollers of any and all dust to prevent them.

It's important to note if a media is actually supported to run by the manufacturer. If you start having problems with the machine, service may say it's not a supported media if it's not on their approved media guide (goes for all vendors, not just Xerox). Here is a published list from Xerox of recommended media for the Versant 4100. Type "carbonless" in the search feature to see the specific brand they have tested and recommend.

I don't know if this helps you, but my engineer has been here for most of the day trying to locate where the paper is dog earing and he has narrowed it down to the decurler module inside the machine. He thinks it's been tweeked slightly and just catching every now and again. He is around 90% certain thats the problem for me. Might be worth having a word with your engineer to see if that could be your problem..

We are running both Versants and Iridesse presses.
The Iridesse is definitely more hungry for paper and has a lot less down time compared to the versants, and in my opinion better solid colours.
The Iridesse does collect a lot more paper dust in the machine running cheaper paper.

To be honest I have my decurler rollers and pressure roller replaced every few months (because I get wrinkles on one side in the corner of a SRA3 sheet) but I still get dog earring even when these are replaced.

Well i had the entire housing and everything replaced and it solved the dog earing on 90gsm but the ncr is as bad as ever which is very frustrating. I will just keep on at the engineer because it's not even a year old and it used to be perfect so.something has changed.

Xerox do like to blame paper, but majority of paper is made at the same factory anyway. Sometimes Xerox own branded paper runs a lot worse than other brands.
