Want to upgrade from Xerox Versant 180, recommendations please

The basic operation is nigh on identical to a V180 - you'd be up and running in no time.

Print quality - a little flatter, less shine (which I like). Print quality a little sharper. Paper seems to have less curl when printed. All just a little bit better. You won't be blown away but you will see a difference. Adding pink may make images pop more but I couldn't see a way to upsell that to my customer base.

I think toner based machines have pretty much reached their limit in quality though. Even Xerox guy said yesterday all the development is to bring inket down to these price levels but we're 5-7 years away from that - but I hope to be retired by then!

Suction feed trays are noisier if you are in an office environment, but the finisher is a lot quieter (my old one may have been knackered though!).

New RIP is noticeably faster at processing and imposition. And coming from Fiery already all my old imposition pre-sets are still there.

And I'm hoping to run a lot more gloss and silk art through it!

Machine looks great! And I agree with ya, toner has maxed its technology out and all machines in the same class will produce nearly the same product. It’s just a matter of if one brand has service issues, parts issues, supplies issues or something else that sets one company apart from another. I understand these companies make their $$ on click charges and supplies but I’m honestly shocked a company (even a startup/non production brand) hasn’t came out and produced a ultra low cost toner that would make a 29” digital press a competitor cost wise. I know Indigo’s can do B2 sheets but they’re anything but cheap. Both machine and clicks. Inkjet will be the replacement for toner but like you said, it’s still a ways off.

So you weren’t nervous signing with Xerox with all their financial issues and everything? Not worried they’ll weasel their way out of contracts or the terms of it when bankruptcy is imminent? I know if they do file it’s not like they’ll just go away (unless it’s like spirit airlines, guess it could happen) but I see them getting chopped up and sold off every which way and laying off employees (especially techs) with a vengeance. Hopefully not but I don’t see it turning around for them much.
