Weird Illustrator issue

Hi all! I hope there's someone who can clear up something for me. We're working with files from an external supplier. There's a pattern with diagonal lines and we're seeing a horizontal and vertical sort of grid in very thin white lines. Can anyone give me an explanation for this and how to get rid of it?

I would guess that this is a "repeating tile" and that these are the bounding edges.

Do you see the edges on output to hardcopy laser or inkjet print or how about to plate? Do you see the edges on output to PDF? What about if you rasterize the PDF, do you see the edges in Photoshop when you zoom in? Is it just a display issue or is it really there on output?

It can happen due to antialiasing. If you turn off antialiasing you and they disappear the most likely will not show in print, but this does to some extent also depend on your workflow.

Stephen & Lukas, thanks for your input. We discovered that the solution was to flatten transparency and choose 'preserve alpha transparency'. No problem!
