Xerox 700 folding a SRA3?

Hi everyone,

has anybody managed to do this on a Xerox700 with the Professional Finisher. I can do A3 without any problems but the slightly larger SRA3 doesn't fold and comes out flat. Is this a limitation?

thanks

Sorted the problem today.

A bit ridiculous to be honest. If the paper stock is defined as "coated" then the Xerox won't fold.
If I change the paper definition to "uncoated" it folds perfectly. I can still load coated in the tray and tell the Xerox to expect uncoated stock. I get the result I need. The explanation (that wasn't) is that folding coated stock @ 210g may result in splitting and cracking on the spine. The Xerox will not allow this despite giving no warning. Uncoated shows no artifacts of folding and is allowed.

OMG! Big Xerox is watching us. It won't allow me to make a test fold to decide myself.

yours, a bit miffed

There are always (and always have been) exceptions like this for different sizes and types. Especially coated. The solution is to do exactly what you did if you can get away with it.

If you notice the toner not adhering as well just bump the paper "weight" up one notch on the UI.

Unless you installed the barebones driver, Xerox's drivers DO actually warn you when you select a mutually exclusive option, like coated + folding, so you might want to make sure you have the most full-featured version of your driver installed.

Cracking on coated stock is a serious issue, and I don't blame them from blocking it. If they didn't everyone would moan about it when it happened.

As long as there's a workaround, for the times when you can get away with it, I'm happy. :)

It's the wastage of time and resources needed to find the workaround that bugs me! An undocumented decision by Xerox that changes the performance of such an expensive piece equipment is very irritating.

I remember years ago Scitex used to issue a regular "Known issues and workarounds" for their page make-up systems. i.e what do those error messages mean? The only problem was they didn't give it away for free. The customers had to buy it on subscription!

thanks for your reply

Rovercat, there should be no work around - you're probably doing someting wrong.

This morning I loaded SRA3 - Coated - 300gsm (Xerox Colotech+ 300gsm Silk Coated). I inadvertantly send it to the D4 (Light Production Finisher) and got out a folded sheet. Not what I wanted, but defintely what I programmed on the FFPS.

What finsher do you have attached? The D Finisher or the C Finisher?
