Here is what I use for just such a problem from one of my customers. You may have to edit it to fit your needs but should point you in the right direction.

XMF does not have a limit for client install or use. There used to be a restriction, but not any more. XMF also has a trap zone editor plugin for Acrobat. I have been using XMF for about a year now.

XMF has the same kind of zonal trapping. You open the pdf and create named zones that use different trap settings.
