My 700 duplexed 100lb dull cover no problem. We got the J75 only because our old rip on 700 was not fast enough any more. Otherwise the 700 was just fine.

We just replaced the 700 with J75. About same quality. The best thing I can advise is if you are doing any large quantity books, do the finishing offline. Its fine for quick proofs. Thats what we use the J75 booklet option in our shop.

Get the service agreement. What ever you think you are paying for the service is nothing compared to all the parts that will cost you in the long run. Light backround colors are a problem on all digital printers. Paper could also effect the outcome. Especially gloss.

My understanding is pastel colors for solid backgrounds don't print well on digital machines. It's a limitation. We are aware of it. We show a client a proof, and let them decide to go digital or press. CMYK or PMS. Some clients want quality and are wiling to pay for it.

Why reinvent the wheel. Mail houses know how to apply addresses and mail. You know how to print. If your client wants to deal with you, why not. You take the order, print it, have the mail house apply addressing and mail the job. The only difference is the client will only deal with you. You...

Stick with rampage. We run 8300E as well. I like the rip once plot many option. We use rampage to create files for press as well as Xerox and proofing devices.

Convert to InDesign, call it a day.

We have iMacs as well, the problem I'm seeing is the screens are starting to show weird cloud pattern. With mac pro you can always change the monitors, drives, much easier.
