Acrobat Ink Manager

Hi,

Hope somebody here has experience of using Acrobat's Ink Manager (I am currently using Acrobat 8). I have tried altering settings in the Ink Manager, but I seem unable to save the data with the PDF. Shouldn't this be possible?

Is the Ink Manager info saved as some form of XMP data?

Does anybody find the Ink Manager of any real use or do you tend to use more specialist systems? I tend to find the ink opacity options a bit limiting (I would prefer to state how opaque an ink is in terms of percentages, even though this would tend to be approximate).

Hope somebody can give some feedback! Thanks,

Nick

Re: Acrobat Ink Manager

The settings of the +Ink Manager+ in Acrobat (including the recently released Acrobat 9) are transient. They apply only to the current document while it is open. The settings are lost when the document is closed. The Ink Manager is primary for use in printing the current document to a PostScript printer and for previewing (especially for separations) within Acrobat. (In contrast, the Ink Manager settings in InDesign are indeed saved with the InDesign document.)

Re: Acrobat Ink Manager

The Ink Manager in Acrobat 8 is only for use when printing - so that during the actual printing operation the changes you specify will be applied. It is NOT saved anywhere in the PDF.

In Acrobat 9, however, the Ink Manager is also integrated with the new and improved Color Convert dialog - so that you can make your spot->process and spot->spot mappings permanent.

Re: Acrobat Ink Manager

Many thanks Dov and Leonard for your responses. I find it very curious as to why the settings are stored anywhere.

I will investigate version 9's toolset.

Best wishes,

Re: Acrobat Ink Manager

Try the tool that looks like an InkPicker or little rainbow box
(I don't know what the heck they call it.
That maps permanently.

Hi,

I do you mean the Convert Colors dialogue? (That's the "rainbox" icon in the Print Production toollbar.)

If so, I afraid this isn't what I was referring to as I was looking to get the ink order and opacity settings to stick.

Please correct me if I got the wrong end of the stick :)

Best wishes,

Nick

Re: Acrobat Ink Manager

Oh Sorry,
I generally do those things while trapping during processing to the RIP.
