Agfa's Apogee never used own imposition editing. You can use Your favourite imposition creation tool (Preps, etc.) and if You've bought the Template Manager or what the hell option for Apogee, You can use your impositions in the workflow.

Both Dynastrip and inpO2 have support for Apogee. Either through the template manager or JDF.

EskoArtwork's FastImpose is surely another possibility. Most powerfull and smart impose tool around ; it always astonished people what a marvel Esko had. Fully (JDF) integrated with Agfa workflows (and even re-sold by Agfa in some regions). FastImpose: Imposition Software for Windows. Depending on your workflow needs and business, it might be or overkill or the 'greatest find' ;-)

:ApogeeX 4.0, received the first CIP4 JDF 1.3 Certification for the support of JDF layout files, created by certified imposition applications.

Then in June of last year, :Apogee Prepress 5.0 received the “CIP4 Certified Product” designation from the Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF). They verified its reliability on behalf of CIP4, as well as the compatibility and other advantages for successful JDF (Job Definition Format) processing.

Awarded only after comprehensive testing, :Apogee Prepress 5.0 is the first JDF-capable prepress workflow to receive the MIS to Prepress designation. :Apogee Prepress 5.0 passed the highest "level 2" Certification, which also includes the validation for versioning, and stripping calculations for web presses.

:Apogee 6.0 is currently certified to work with approximately 30 MIS systems, via JDF and JMF exchange.

So, you ask why :Apogee doesn't have a (proprietary?) imposition editor? With the new tighter interface between MIS and :Apogee, the job can even be imposed virtually by itself, based on stripping information being passed to it via the MIS system.

Or, of course it can work with many popular imposition packages, as previously mentioned.

Steve; Everything is true but I suppose that this is not an answer for quite small companies using simple Apogee Manage and has no any MIS. It is quite strange to offer imposition software from competetive vendors like Kodak. So when Apogee can use JDF, PJTF or TPL formats for creating imposition it will be nice to provide simple editor which can generate such data for mentioned above kind of customers.
Because Agfa can't offer that solution we can see offers from Esko, Impostrip etc in that topic

Prinect Signa Station is JDF certified. It is is pretty good stuff with a history going back I think about 22 years now. With heritage like this, it may explain why it is considered one of the most flexible and powerful imposition programs on the market.

One of the things we did as we refined inpO2 was to make the application modular so that it can address the needs of the 2-up printer as well as the 8-up and larger operations.

Given this, with inpO2 we offer a scalable solution that works well with Apogee Render and Control using PDF, or can be upgraded to work with .TPL files or JDF layouts for Apogee Manage or Control configurations.

So for well under $1000, a Render or Control customer can get a good basic PDF based imposition package with our inpO2 Basic or Wizard product. Upgrade to Pro and add .TPL support, or add the JDF module and work within a JDF environment for under $2000.

Wiseguy was kind enough to private mail me on my math....I must be getting old. Signastation launched in 1993 so that would be 16 years new not 22 years. I am sure of this because when it launched, I was running the Linotype-Hell Demo center in California. The Signa was bundled with the sexy black NeXT computer from Mr. Jobs fine company. Unfortunately, he decide to get of the hardware business a week or so after I got the Signa, so we had to stop, the sw was recompiled for a standard PC and Signa was relaucnhed on a Intel 486 platform. But hey, we ran on the NeXTstep OS, had multitasking and display postscript, you could see the pages as they were imposed. Pretty trick for then. By the way, NeXt is still alive in code in OS 10...

Mark... Yes I'll see you in Chicago! Should be fun! I remember when Signastation first came out... I think I saw it at one of the big shows in Europe about a year or so after I launched PressWise... it was cool on the Next. I always thought that was a cool choice of platforms... maybe not the smartest at the time given very few used Next, but cool none the less. It was Signastation with your display postscript that got us to tie PressWise into PrePrint (remember those types of applications?) so we could get the previews in PressWise. Those were fun and exciting times in the industry.

But in general - CIP4 has working groups that
create a set of Interoperability Conformance
Specifications (ICS) for certain task pairings.

the CIP4 ICS test suites against submitted products, and

Multiple Product Versions."

What does this mean for you? Apogee continues to embrace and steward
open industry standards, and continues to demonstrate through such
certification, that it plays well with others within the same JDF/CIP4 sandbox.

Your investment in Apogee opens the doors toward broader automation and
integration. The JDF User's Group at Democrat next week is a practical
demostration of JDF at work in the real world.
