distortion software or plugins?

Hello,

I'm searching for a solution to create accurate distortion to artwork, that will then be formed in a shape at finishing.

The easiest example is a papercup. The art is set on a curve, and when the cup is finished and the art is correct.

My shop is moving into contour shaped fabric (dye_sub printing) shapes like convex and concave cones, spheres etc. I'm Looking for a suggested software or adobe plug-ings, that can help create this distortion for accurate finishing.

I suppose the vinyl wraps I see on cars and trucks use software like what you are wanting.
Check with your local vinyl sign printer and see what they use.

There are two basic workflows - create the artwork distorted from the start, or create it "regular" and then distort it later. Distorting artwork after creation is more common.

When it comes to tools for packaging artwork generation, the company that first comes to mind is EskoArtwork:

Other options may include:

PaSharp

Of course, Adobe have basic built in envelope deformation tools in Illustrator, however only vectors are affected. One also has basic distortion options in Photoshop. It would not be very productive or accurate to do this using the basic Adobe tools, which is why more expensive dedicated packaging solutions are available.

You can warp a photo in illustrator, it's not a vector only, the problem is getting the base shape. Photoshop extended will let you paint on a 3D object, you just need to get your 3-D object into photoshop extended, but that being said I too think Esko

I thought so too Lukas, however the envelope distortion did not affect a placed image when I posted my message...

EDIT: Ah, that is right...one needs to embed, not link the image!
