Envelopes through Versant 80

I just put in a V-80 last week. Beautiful prints, fast registers great. It replaced the C-75 I boght last year. I just got done running 1,000 full color #10 on 60# Accent Opaque and 5,000 black & white #10's on just regular Mac Papers envelopes. I had 2 miss feeds and one was my fault the other just a little hangup. I have to agree with MailGuru that my only complaint would be for another option for delivery. The envelopes stayed true, no skewing from the first to last. Being an old pressman, it's just habit to be pulling and checking while running the envelopes. First job off the machine last week was 8.5 x 5.5 postcards on Carolina WR 14pt, a run of 1,000 4 up 12 x 18 sheets and was done in 45 minutes, duplex-ed color. I have a few issues with the production folder and the square-fold trimmer but as has always been the way since I started using Xerox, they jumped right on it and had to elevate to bring in an engineer, to make sure all was right, and he determined that they need to replace both parts and have expedited the call for the parts. Xerox has always treated me this way, this is my 4th Xerox, and why I have always stayed with them. Their service is excellent.

If you need Versant 80 refurbished at great deals. Message me.

In my opinion, you should not be looking at the V80 or the V2100 specifically to do envelopes. They are both excellent machines, and, will run envelopes flawlessly, but, buying one of these machines specifically to run envelopes is a little like taking out a shot-gun to kill a fly. There are much less expensive solutions out there if all you want to use it for is to run envelopes. Most of us who own & run V80/V2100's acquired them for high quality print jobs (some static, some variable image/variable data). These jobs include posters, post cards, direct mail pieces, booklets, catalogs, etc. where color and registration (front to back, as well as sheet to sheet) are critical. The fact that it will also run envelopes is, of course, a definite plus, and, icing on the cake, but, most of us did not decide on the V80/V2100 as an "envelope printer", per se. But, is sure is nice to have the control of running them in-house and on-demand instead of outsourcing them.
That isn't the only reason we are looking at it, we already have 2 Canon 7010's for color, but we need something to do envelopes as well as smaller cut sheet that the 7010's can't run (and additional capacity for some times when volume is heavy). Anything else that I have looked at that is cheaper is just junk IMO....the reason we are looking is to replace a POS toner based printer that previous management (no longer here) got on a 5 year lease.

If you have other suggestions I am open to them, but have not seen anything smaller than the Canon C700 and Xerox V80 that are worth it IMO... also we need it to run smaller cut sheet as well.

I see. Well, I can't speak to the Canon C700, but, the V80 is certainly a fine machine. I've heard good things about it. We have the V2100, but, as I understand, it's the same machine, just slower (80 ppm vs 100 ppm). The V80 will probably do everything you ask of it

I appreciate the info!

I did a demo of the C700 and it ran great, everything I threw at it. the V80 I have had no luck on with multiple demos, skew is quite bad. I am going to look at it again after they get some info, and at a 2100 as well. We will see how it goes.

Our Versant 80 is pretty much dead on. You will need to run alignment profiles for every stock you run but after that it has been very accurate. If you are seeing bad skews on the 80 something must not be set up right.

It's funny then, Xerox doesn't know how to set up their own box... they have had techs and specialists out for it and they still can't get it to not skew, and badly, on 3 different boxes. I'll bring it up with them this Thursday.... we shall see.

I bet you're letting your tech get away with just doing a internal alignment in service mode which only allows an 11 x 17 sheet. I won't let my tech get away with that. I run my regular sheets 12 x 18 and 13 x 19 and use that to get the alignment. Most times I won't let the tech touch that and do that myself as I know more about alignment then he does when it comes to my standard sheets. Beside most times when parts are replaced some service mode alignment needs done anyhow especially if it is the 2nd BTR.

No idea since this was a new box on a showroom floor and the sales guy had him come out. I do know the tech that he said came out and he is a great tech. I'll see what I find out Thursday.

We looked long and hard at the Oki 941 ($37K+), 942 ($36+) and 931 ($20K+) as well as an older 900 ($14K+). We just didn't feel our volume was enough to justify the cost.

Hi Jim, I just wanted to confirm that here in the UK those prices are WAY off!!! These models are classed as "closed products" so I can't openly post pricing here on the forum but let me say that what we call the Pro9431 (aka the C931e, which is an update to the C931dn) is perhaps a third of what you've quoted. Same with what we call the Pro9541 and Pro9542.

Even including the cost of the Intec feeder and conveyor doesn't get you anywhere near the prices you've quoted:

We run all kinds of envelopes on our C75. I've heard a lot of good about envelopes running on the Versant 80 and 2100 so I am looking forward to the upgrade. Like other people on this thread, it was over a year before we found the little envelope adapter in tray 6. The C75 is picky with envelope brand and construction. Side seam envelopes work best if they are of good quality. We tried cheap ones and it wrinkled bad. We use Mohawk Everyday Digital 60lb side seam.

PLEASE............Stop using forums designed for the valid exchange of information and ideas between colleagues to advertise your business and products. I see you've posted in several threads on PrintPlanet for the express purpose of advertising. This is generally not accepted in most forums as, it is a distraction to those of us trying to gain knowledge and information, as well as diverting much-needed advertising and sponsorship dollars from those hosting the forum. I realise it comes over as trying to advertise products, which on some level is true. However, I wanted to counter Jim's incorrect pricing and state that in the UK at least this pricing is way out. We're not allowed to discuss pricing openly online so was just giving people a way to find out what it is.

(Also I hadn't even noticed any advertising on this forum - which is good because I hate popups, etc.)

You didn't notice the side bar on the right? There is an ad for Epson, Ultimate, and Enfocus. And there are ads at the bottom of this page, Presswise, Collins Ink...
