Hexachrome Tools

I recently did a presentation at the ISCC, and learned from Scot Fernandez (Hallmark Cards, Inc) that all designers and retouches now work images that are in a custom RGB space - using HSB editing only - using the Aurelon CoCo Photoshop plug-in - like selective color, only much more powerful - and once finished, output to a custom 5 color inkset (switching Magenta to a flourecent Pink and Cyan to a light cyan) - in this way, they get a wide gamut that includes the popular 'holiday' colors - Halloween and "Little Nemo" Orange, Mothersday Lavenders, Valentine hot pink.

The tried Hexachrome and did not like it.

Pantone no longer sells Hexwrench (as you already know)

The ICISS (Interactice Color Independent Separation Software) by Aurelon may be the piece of software you are looking for. It is basically a color separator that let you introduce any color as a basic colorant and has all the bells and whistles to do so in your own needs. You can do Hexachrome, Opaltone, Indichrome, Metal Fx or “YourOwnChrome”. RGB files can be separated in any existing or custom color model. The CoCo plug-in mentioned before is basically a “punch plate” maker and does it very well if just an extra plate is what you are looking for. I use ICISS and even for RGB-CMYK conversions, it is much more customizable than good old Photoshop's freaky algorythms.

I use Gretag Macbeth's Multicolor Plug In with Photoshop CS2(does not work with CS3?) There is also a companion Plug In that you can use to soft proof your Hexachrome separations. I built our Hexachrome profile from Hexachrome press data using Profilemaker 5. I proof through GMG to our Epson using the Hexachrome profile and it does a pretty good job. The soft proof using GMB's Proof Plug In and the Epson match as well as can be expected. If you have Profilemaker I believe the Plug Ins are freeware downloads.

Todd

Hello,

Looking for Lab values for HP Indichrome to make a 7 color profile. Use GM Profilemaker 5 and have option to make hexachrome 6 color or Multicolor with 7. We use CMYKOGViolet
Any ideas?

Wondering what press data did you use to make profile

Thanks

I used data from a target that I created in Profilemaker that we printed in Hexachrome. If you have access to the HP Indichrome you can create the target and print it and use the data from the target to create a profile.
Best regards,
Todd

Hexachrome Tools

Heidelberg has a Multi-Color Tool in the Profile Package called Prinect Profile Toolbox. It is really tool that can profile up to 7 colors and then the profiles can be used to convert images from RGB to CMYK.
