iGen 4 - TYPE THINNING ISSUE ADVICE

Anyone have any advice - we are having occasional issues with some type faces thinning so badly that they almost look broken up. It occurs mostly in the curved portion of the type. We have gone through every possible setting on the press, from adding stroke thickness, to changing trap, to turning edge enhancement on and off, basically we have run sheets with every possible combination of user settings, and can not seem to affect any change. We are starting to consider that there may be something inherent in the file that is creating the issue, whether that be the software that it was created in, or some erroneous user setting when the .pdf was created. We have been running this iGen 4 for about a year, and normally very pleased with the result, but this type issue has been a thorn in our side the entire time. Any advice appreciated.

(1) Make sure you are using paper made for digital print. Sometimes, if you use paper made for offset print, there is a certain amount of "paper dust" of "fiber impurities" of the surface of the paper that will produce that result.
(2) try pushing to another toner-based printer (even if just an office laser). If you get the same result, it's probably in the file.

It's the file.
You need to get back to the native document (InDesign or whatever, not the PDF) to do anything about it. The other comments above are also worthy.

Have you tried the options on the Fiery (if you have one) ie line screen etc. Worth a look, trial and error really.

Is the text reversed out of a colour or just printing black on white.

Speak to Xerox, maybe
