What are the differences and similarities between the two units? Also, which models of Xerox and Cannon should be comparing against?

Xerox 700?
Canon IR 9075 pro?

65hc / 6501 -main difference is high-chroma toner, special CMS profiles for enhanced gamut, and price. Everything else is primarily the same

Main competitors for the 6501/65hc would be the Canon 6000, IR9074, Ricoh C900 (though that competes more with Xerox 7002/8002), Xerox 700 / 260...

You would not use an HC in an regular printing enviroment as the gamut is designed for RGB and the the click cost is higher. The HC is more specifically for photobooks, rgb colourspace. The machine is the same aside from developers toners etc.

Would the hc model have any different media requirements or do the c6501 and c65hc have the exact same approved media? I have a customer that loves the c6501 and wonders if with the different toner it will react different to a special media he uses with the c6501 currently.

thanks!!!

The color output is certainly different, you are unable to get "navy blue" - something like pantone 208 on hc65, magentas are "problem" as well. It does though produce very vibrant colors, almost fosforescent yellow etc.

The machine otherwise preforms pretty much the same as 5601 and is not very picky on substrates, however we had poor results on it due to constant servicing needs. Before taking a decision, check the servicing - without knowleadgeable and responsible maintainance it can be more of a "stander", since it is pretty demanding, at least for us it was.
