Possible fuser issue with OKI C942

Hi
I'm trying to figure out if this is a fuser issue, the media being incorrect, or something else.

I'm trying to print on self-adhesive PET and when I try to print anything larger than a Letter. It looks like the fuser just shuts off about 2/3 of the way.

Also, I been noticing some discoloration but I'm assuming that's the drums.

The fuser/drums/and everything else in the machine still has about 90% of life left, so brand new (unless the previous owner messed with it)

Before I spend about $500 to test my fuser theory, could it be something else here? Maybe some setting that I need to change?

No.

On a plain 11x17 (80gsm or 20lb) i get a full print without this issue.

I will get some cardstock tomorrow and try that

My first thought was inline with @SoggyWinter's comment ...if it's only happening on that media, then it's the media and not the machine. Don't waste money on replacing the fuser. You could try increasing or decreasing the GSM setting, but my guess is you're not going to have much luck printing that type of material on the OKI. We have the same OKI and we have not has much success printing on synthetics. The toner always seems to pick off, even if we do get a decent print. Our Konica's print on the synthetics without any issue.

So I did try multiple other self-adhesive labels and pretty much the same thing on anything larger than a letter.
For some reason, letter-sized documents do ok (mostly)

The same thing happens with synapse xm and other synthetic papers.

Is there a brand od transparent adhesive labels that this printer works with?

We've tried 2 different ones on our OKI C942...a completely clear one and a frosted one. Both imaged okay (much better than the results you're getting) however, the toner would easily scratch off by simply running the back of your fingernail across it. We would print in all-white or with a white base since the toner is translucent. Perhaps there's another material out there, but this OKI doesn't seem capable of printing on that type of material. I'd suggest outsourcing.

Do you remember the brands?

Scratching is not an issue.. we laminate it.

Outsourcing is not an option for us currently.

Thanks

I too have this Oki.. And the fuser is quite small. Adequate mostly, but def has a hard time staying hot with fast delivery. Thicker/heavier stocks will suck the heat out of it fast. Generally speaking, light weight stocks are ok, but if you run 8.5x11 (a4) it will run very fast. And the toner will be fine for the first sheet, then not stick well for the next 6 - 8, 10 envelopes until the fuser gets to catch up again. Set your weights to VERY HEAVY, to heat it up as possible, should help. But also, that solid coverage is not helping. Try letting it run for 10 sheets or more, slow as you can get it. Lie about the size, and turn off media checking, to slow it down.

Ok so i managed to get a full A3 sheet out. I switched from Acrobat on Windows 10 to printing from Illustrator on a Mac and I could get a full sheet out. But it doesn't really matter.. Oki is not really up to the task for this.

Need to find an alternative.

Thank you everybody for your suggestions
