Production Logs

We're now at a point where we have 2 KM1050's with a MicroPress front end and 2 KM6501's w/Creo front ends. The operators usually fill out time sheets for each machine, such as job#, clicks, sheets used, waste, etc., since there is no built-in feature in either engine to spit out a detailed daily production log at the end of the day.

As we have been landing more and more accounts with run quantities of 50 each, we're finding that taking the time to log each job is counterproductive. Last month we got 900 different variable jobs this way just from one customer! So now we're just writing down the counter at the beginning of the shift and at the end of the shift, along with just the job numbers. This also allowed us to take advantage of batch printing, but that still leaves us with a cloud of uncertainty to gauge growth due to a lack of information. So I was wondering what others are doing as far as job logging or if theres any third party solutions out there. Thanks.

The creo has a pretty comprehensive job log and micropress has 'accounting'. KM are coming out with digital store front type solution soon so you might want to investigate that, apparently it's quite affordable.

Creo IC-304 does in INFO>ACCOUNTING. has rip/process time, print start and end, color/bw clicks.
Can be exported/printed but is a bit finicky with output.

Well if it includes a job name you can use a job number for the job name and you can parse the data to get clicks accounted for. You will still need to account for paper manually.

We use Xerox printers. The Xerox accounting logs are very good. We can account for the paper used, meter clicks, start and stop times and so much more. We parse the data from the logs and import it into or Logic system to bill the jobs.

I just got done messing around with it and you weren't kidding about the output part. Obviously whoever coded that aspect of the RIP must not had any formal training in layout, heh. It does look like a text file can be exported so I'm gonna have to work at it.

Thanks!
