PUR bind bleed deletion

I do a lot of books in InDesign that are PUR bind. So I have to extend bleed on all pages to get .125" bleed on all four sides. Since the files are built as facing pages, I have to open the final pdf and delete unwanted blled from the facing pages that are covering up the bleed I really need. Anyone have a better way of deleting the bleed than doing it manually??

Hello,
have you checked the discussion at https://printplanet.com/threads/bleed-edge-clipped-to-next-page.294158/ ?

Alternatively, and if I understood your requirements correctly, you have single pages like this

and you want to perform a 2-Up imposition layout, where the individual pages are pulled to the center but the bleed from page 1 must not creep/overlap into the bleed/content from page 2 basically you want
- the left side to have no bleed on its right edge and...
- the right side to have no bleed on its left edge.

If this is correct I can provide you a trial version of a software that does this and much more. Feel free to reach out via direct message.

Best Regards.

Any good imposition program will do this for you

@PrintHusky, what is this software you speak of?

pd

It is niche software for digital print and reprographics service providers. It is under constant development based directly on user requirements. The spectrum of functions is very wide and covers topics that are usually cumbersome in other software or require many manual steps.
The software follows a "Lego Brick" design. Individual functions (for example "select all first pages of a multipage file" or "insert blank page with filename at current selection") are the little bricks which come together and make a whole, allowing a complex workflow process to be build first with manual steps, then automate in a macro.

Any Printplanet user that is running a commercial business is welcome to give it a try for free and can contact me via direct message.

Here are some of the previous links that I posted as answers to member questions, which describe some capabilities of the software. This is by no means a full function list.
Best Regards.

Does it have a name?

You need bleed on all 4 sides even for Pur binding. I have not found an easy way to do it automatically. Usually our customers build their files with facing pages and no bleed on the inside. In this case we use pitstop within acrobat to automatically add bleed. But this isn't always a good solution as the bleed it adds isn't always great. If you find another method please post.

Are the steps shown in this video easy enough for your automation expectation ?
The sample starts with an input file that has facing pages, which are split into singles first and a few different imposition and bleed options are shown. This is by no means a full demo of all capabilities.

I am not sure what you meant by "this isn't always a good solution as the bleed it adds isn't always great" but if you can provide a sample input file and the expected output, I can comment more.
