Riso HC5500 and 50gsm paper???

I'm a missionary in Romania that prints books, small pamphlets etc. for other missionaries in Europe.

At this time I am the only cost effective option to print a new Bible translation at 820 pages (there are several reasons why it is not being printed offset at this point). We are currently using a Xerox 1010/2101 b/w laser printer (using 70g paper for the Bibles). It works well when it works I would like to print on 50-60gsm paper but the heat from the Xerox creates too much curl.

Would a HC5500 work well for this application (on 50gsm paper)? I realize I could only print about 30 or so copies a day, that's fine as long as it's trouble free! I would also like to print a comic pamphlet on it in color. It's a small 8 page booklet that I print 3-up on A4. I would be printing these by the 1,000's.

Here's my main questions:
1. How will in print on 50-60gsm paper?
2. How trouble free is it (my Xerox is good one day and a pain the next and it only has 800k on it!)
3. Will the books bind okay in a perfect glue binder (will heat from the binder be a problem because it's inkjet)?
4. Is there any other costs other than ink?

The HC5500 will print on stock as heavy as 210 gsm. It has a simple, straight paper path with no heat fusing system so it is very reliable. It has a duty cycle of 500,000 pages per month. The paper exits the system cool, flat, and dry, so no problem in binding. Ink is the only consumable, plus there is a service click.

Thanks for the reply! I hope to be able to try some light weight paper on one soon. I'm wondering if bleed through will be a problem on 50g paper? My #1 attraction to the HC5500 is being able to run very thin stock and reliability.

Bleed-through is possible on lightweight paper, but the density settings can be adjusted in the print driver to apply less ink.

We have been using the hc5500 for 2 years and it has been very reliable
Albeit, somewhat quirky I'm minor ways. But, it is expensive to buy

I recently acquired a used Riso HC5500. I'm getting a Error message:

Z11-120
Standard paper feed tray elevator lower limit SW detection
The lower limit SW for the standard paper feed tray is turned ON.

Does any one know how to remedy this?

We have been using the HC5500 for about 2 years with no service issues at all!
1. How will in print on 50-60gsm paper? Yes it will I recommend printing from the standard tray. Make sure the paper is straight and with out any "curl".
2. How trouble free is it (my Xerox is good one day and a pain the next and it only has 800k on it!). If you key in the correct parameters before printing the HC5500 is trouble free doe to the simple and straight forward design.
3. Will the books bind okay in a perfect glue binder (will heat from the binder be a problem because it's inkjet)? They sure will bind well the paper course is straight and the output comes out dry and flat (don't forget it's an IJ).
4. Is there any other costs other than ink? Depends on you contract.
