Typesetting Software Suggestions Needed

Any suggestions for typesetting programs other than ID? We have a lot of templates that we would need to pull up and then customize the copy in them with various fonts and copy.

Thanks!

What format are the templates in? Also, how much are you looking to spend...?

Hi AnnM!

Have you tried Quark express from Quark Inc? It is more or less the same with InDesign in terms of price and features. This application runs on Windows and MAC OS X operating systems and supports lay outing in WSIWYG environment.

If the templates are in InDesign you could automate the formatting of the type to make it nearly "hands-free".

The templates are stored in .conf or .ini type files. Quark would not be an option as it is about the same as ID (which we do have for other products). WSIWYG is not necessary as our current system does not support that. A verification system/double entry system would be easier to convince our management to consider. The other issue with ID is that we have to manually export everything to PDF and then move it to another folder. Our current system just needs a code entered and it is exported and moved automatically to another hot folder. We are not really designing anything, we just take orders for invitations and cards and enter the customer's text into them and then format it according to the customer's request.

You could probably automate a significant amount of that with XML as long as your job creation system could output the necessary data fields.

Greg
