How to determine if a Xerox workcentre is a 7655, 7665 or 7675?

Hi guys!

Well I just purchased a used Xerox workcentre 7675 printer. The problem that I have is that both the start up screen and configuration pages say that it's a 7655. But the front cover of the machine says that it's a 7675. The BW copy speed is only 55 sheets per minute.

I'm looking for some pointers on how to determine if the machine is indeed in fact a 7675 printer. I tried calling Xerox but they could only say that it was a 76XX series workcentre.

Also if anyone knows where a STAMPED serial number is located on the machine that would be of great help, since I am worried that they might have changed the digital serial number and click count.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The proof is obviously in the speed and as you have already tried that, combined with the fact that the machine itself tells you it's a 7655 I think you have proof enough that it isn't a 7675.

Sounds like it may have had a different cover on it at some point - much more likely than changing the digital details. Cover cracked, found a replacement from the same range, fitted.

The reason why I'm also asking for a stamped serial number is because the vendor is an "authorized xerox representative" He emailed me the original invoice for the machine from the first owner, and those documents show that it's a 7675.

So my best guess is that he swapped out the top cover and main logic board from that machine into a 7655.

I want to be a 100% sure that this is the case before I take further action against the seller.

Thanks again!

Hi I am a X person. When a 76xx series is delivered the install person puts the badge on the front of the machine while they are assembling the machine, whether it is a 7655 65 or 75. The other badges are available at the time of delivery. No matter what. The machine is what it says it is on the configuration page. If it says it is a 7655 on the configuration page and on the screen than that is what it is.

The serial number can be found on the screen by selecting machine status. The serial number can not be wiped by someone nor can the click count. The serial number is also on some metal plates inside the machine. I am not sure where but if you go to the website and click on support you can ask the question directly under a FAQ format.

Ok thank you for that great post and help!! I found how to locate the printed serial number on the machine :)

Now how can I check with Xerox if the machine was sold a 7675? When I called them they were unable to verify that for me.

Thanks!

More info guys!!

Just called Xerox and after being transferred a couple of times I finally got a rep on the phone that verified with the serial number that the machine is in fact a 7655.

I'm very disappointed about this since this was sold to me as a 7675 by an "Authorized Xerox representative" When I confronted him about the discrepancies regarding the model number he said that I still got a hell of a deal.

I still need to verify the printed serial number on the machine.

Thanks!

How could they (Authorized rep) do that?
It just not right
Hope you can win over what's yours :)

That's not good! A lot of vendors claim to be "Xerox representatives" but sometimes they are not. What does their business card say? Xerox Partner, Xerox Agent, Xerox Reseller?

On the left side of the machine, below the bypass tray, there's a door at the bottom. I think there's a metal sticker in there with the machine's S/N and barcode.

It's plain fraud whichever way you look at it. That dealer should be grovelling at your feet right now to avoid a police case.

Thanks for the support guys!! Yes I know that it's fraud, after a couple of more emails, he offered to have me send the printer back and he would refund me in full, but he is in another state and I'm in So Cal, I don't want to risk not getting my money back and loosing more time in searching for another printer.

I have been asking him to send me a partial refund, let's see how things go. I don't care that much about the money, if he doesn't comply I will take legal action and make sure to inform as many people that I can over the internet of his deceitful business practices.

Not to mention that the guy is a total dick, he has a know it all attitude and tries to talk you down whenever you have and issue or a problem, he says that he has been in business for over 20 years, let's see how much further his company can go with this type of BS.
