Identifying Digital Machine Used...

We have a print sample from a client, and it is 8.5" x 18". In a solid, you can see a light streak in the blue, reminiscient of a clump in the developer. The rub is that it indicates the piece was run through the machine long edge first. What kind of a digital press can print an 18" wide sheet? Even iGens can't do that, that I am aware of. The quality looks pretty good, but not quite as good as our Versant, and maybe not quite as good as our C75. It is definitely digital. I can see the faint yellow dots in the background.

It was my understanding though that they were better quality than a Xerox, and I wasn't sure if they would have streaks, I know very little about their internal workings. I also thought they had scratch problems, and the sample I have won't scratch at all.

we can print a sheet 12.5" x 25"on our IGen4 and 150 (thats approx) we work in mm

Are you sure about the origins of that streak? Even if a machine can run an 18" wide piece, if they ran the piece two up, it would still make sense to run it through lengthwise.

Could you ask the client about the machine? Point out the streak and tell him you want to nail down the problem.

It's possible I am mis-diagnosing the problem. It is a case where the client had switched to another printer, then came back to us. This was a sample of the work the other printer had done.

The other printer was doing it so cheaply that we were scratching our head. Unless they have a much cheaper click rate, they weren't making enough to cover overhead.
