komori lithrone speed issue?

Hi we have a 26" 4 color press and a week or two ago our press just started slowing down on its own!! We checked the brushes on the motor and they look fine... This only happens every once in awhile but is happening now more frequently.
Has anyone experienced this problem?

Thanks,
Gary

Brown Out?

Brown Out?

Just a thought and probably just a remote chance, but could it be that your electrical power supply company is experiencing a temporary power service problem. This would be like the brown outs that occur in the Summer in major US cities when the demand for power is the greatest. Out on a limb here, but you never know. Where are you located? D

Hi D,

Thanks, I thought about power supply but we have two komoris (1- 4c & 1- 2c) and this is the only one affected. We are in St. Louis.

One thing I've learned in 20+ years of running Komori's is not to self diagnose electrical problems. We use an electrician that works on Komori's out of CT. If you'd like his name and number send me a PM. Maybe you can pick his brain over the phone.

Had this problem on an older 44" Lithrone, we found that the old style computer boards were heating up and causing this problem to come and go, we eventually put in cooling units into the main console and the problem went away
Just a thought

We had this issue of few months ago. On a 5 color Komori. Turned out it was the power coming into the shop. It should be on a 3 phase with each "leg/phase" coming in around 235. Two of them were good and one was coming in at 100. Komori diagnosed it with our electrician and the power company handles the repair. It did not affect any of our other equipment, cutters, smaller presses, die-cutters etc,. I would have your electrician check each leg/phase and make sure they are all coming in above 235

Best,

Santa

If the main power is interupted, the main motor brake should come on. Does the press go into "Slow" speed which would light the lamp on the "slow" button or does the "fast" lamp stay on?

I would check the belt tension on the main motor if the "Fast" lamp is still on when the press is slowing. Otherwise, check the relays and contactors in the main motor circuit.

The press needs 220 volts. Anything below about 210 can cause problems but above 230 volts can damage the circuitry, especially the solenoids.
