questions about acrobat...

good morning all.
i have a couple questions about acrobat standard vs. professional.
now i assume that professional is a higher quality product than standard, but has anyone noticed any conflictions between standard 8 and cws 4.7? we seem to get some tranparency issues when printing from standard, but when printing the same file from professional we get fine results. i have checked the print settings of both, and they are the same, unless of course i missed something somewhere.

which leads me to the next question. if standard is an inferior product, why does efi choose to bundle it with the fiery software as opposed to professional? i understand the cost factor, but if their intent is to provide the highest quality product, shouldn't they then provide the highest quality product?

which leads me to another question. has anyone replaced standard on their fiery machine with professional and does efi support or recommend this?

I don't know what CWS is, but Acrobat Standard and Professional 9(!) should print exactly the same way. There may be differences in 8, I can't recall - but in 9 we did a bunch of work to make the printing consistent between the various versions, including Reader, when possible.

It's only inferior for the printing/prepress industry as it does not contain ANY of the tools necessary for working with those documents. Of course, if all you are doing is viewing/printing - it doesn't really matter much.

So you'd need to ask EFI this question...

And upgrade....

cws is the command workstation within the fiery system.
and we use the pitstop plugin in acrobat to do simple modifications at the machine after prepress gets through with the files.
thank you for the time though. =)

We have a client with an inhouse, we recommended an upgrade to Pro because of the colour management module. Also we showed the operator some simple things as the tools for quality checking PDFs, such things as checking the K channel, and dissabling inapropriate ICC profiles.

The advantage of having the preflight fixups is also to be taken into account.
