Envelope Press Alternative

As I stated in another post, we are not happy with our Xante Production Press and are looking for an alternative. Any suggestions on a machine that will do envelopes, maybe light cover?

Stay away from PSI - worst support ever. Waited 3 weeks for a reply to an issue only to hear that they had no recollection of the 20 minute conversation I had with them. Feeder runs when it wants to, which isn't often. You will also be locked into their proprietary toner at a 30-40% premium.

Just get an off the shelf Okidata 9650.

Hello everyone,

First of all, I will disclose to all of you that I work for Intec–but I have previously worked for Xanté as a product specialist and field engineer for the last 8 years. I have had experience with both the Xanté and PSI envelope units and hope that you will include our new Intec model in your search for the best envelope printer for your needs and budget.

Please check out the Intec product line, we have a number of new product developments being released in the next few months–including a envelope CP2020 model that can be purchased with or without a RIP option. Currently our distribution is primarily in the European markets but we will be expanding distribution into the Americas and Asia later this year.

As a sidenote, if you, or anyone you know, are interested in being a distributor of our Intec units, please contact us or send me a message.

Thank you,

Sorry it;s taken so long to respond to the question of what is wrong with our Xante. There are several reasons, first of all the overall quality on different stocks is not very good. You are limited to what it will actually print on such as linens, laids etc... Secondly, their tech support was less than stellar as we tried to work out different problems with the machine. Thirdly, if it will only print envelopes, and not a wide selection, then the price of the machine is ridiculous as you can purchase a Oki 9650, basically the same thing, for a lot less and not be tied into their proprietary toners which cost a fortune. If you are going to pay $17,000 for a digital envelope press, (copy machine) then it had better run alot more stock than just envelopes to make it pay. And fourth, their envelope feeder leaves a lot to be desired.

Hello all,
I operate a print for pay shop in Ohio and currently use a Bizhub 6500. I'm looking for another machine so that we're not dead in the water when the Konica goes down and also I'd like to do envelopes. Your posts about Xante and Riso of course raise flags about them and I'd like to know more about the Oki..........how is it going now?
Thanks,

Just a follow up. We purchased a Oki 9650 and have been using it for several months now. For envelope printing, for the most part it has been great. It occasionally, for no reason, will drop out some of the color on a logo or text on a #10 reg. or window. As far as running card stock. We ran several business cards, 12 up on 8.5x11 12 pt C1S. After 4 or 5 runs, each about 50 sheets per job, we noticed a slight toning in the background. Progressively after a few more runs it got to the point we could not sell the sheet it was tinted so badly. We called Oki service, they asked for samples, which we sent. Their reply was, it was well within the machines tolerances. They also made the comment that the machine was never designed to run coated stock. (not a real impressive tech team) I asked would it handle 12 point stock non coated, to which they answered yes. So we ran uncoated thru it and still it toned. So, I called Okis reseller, who we bought the machine thru, and they sent out new drums and toners. We installed them and for the first 100 or so sheets it worked great. Then, back came the toning. Morale of the story. I guess if your buying the machine just for envelopes it does a pretty decent job. We have ran several color, 1 and 2 and 4/c jobs and it performed well so far. But if you want to use it as a backup for business cards, postcards etc.. your probably out of luck. The drums dont seem to hold up and its to expensive to replace every 100 or so sheets. Like our experience with Xante envelope press. Buyer beware. We are still working with Okis reseller to see if there are other options to clearing up the toning, but, so far no success. I will keep an update on our continuing experience.

Check the Oki C9650 or the C9800, it must run as you need. If not, OKI is lauching it's new line of machines, PROCOLOR, witch ensure to be fixed the problems the others machines has.
They had one with the envolopes feeder. Had you check it?

We offer the Taneum Envelope X-Press color envelope printing system. And yes, we also use the Oki C9650, along with the Straight Shooter feeder/conveyor system. Our package includes "PSLenvelopeMaker" VDP software for the design phase of variable images and text, and the fast merging of variable address fields, up to 25,000 records per minute. For installed Xante, Xerox 7400, and Oki 9XXX printers, we have a package that includes the "PSLenvelopeMaker" and feeder/conveyor to extend the life of these models.

Envelope Press?/copier

Envelope Press?/copier

HI, I recently wanted to buy an envelope press. I was looking at Xante. I called them to let them know I was ready. They have YET to call me back. Cash in hand. So I went with an OKIDATA 905DP.Through Performance Solutions In NY. It will run all envelopes, plus we run 18pt stock . Along with magnet stock. Had a couple of issues with support, but Mike C. has been excellent. Don't know cost yet as I am on first set of toners.
Hope this helps and Xante would work well with my boat. Heard Oki makes them all.........xante, psi and the Intec listed above sure looks one too. One other note the feeder on the oki is made by, I believe , Thiele. Seems very solid so far........in time I will check back in.

Thanks Jeff K

FOLLOW UP...........

NOT HAPPY . As stated above envelopes are ok, but w/ embossing. Yet when running 18pt as promised by person mentioned above .......there are register issues. And I have spoken with Tod, National sales rep at OKI, and still have not resolved issues. I have been dealing with this since FEB.
As far as I am concerned I was lied to about specs on machine. Was told it would run 24pt!!!!! If you want to buy have them put it on your production floor to test before you lay out 18 grand/905DP. If I know now what I do . I WOULD NOT BUY THIS UNIT. As the tech from Oki said that the fuser runs at a different speed than the transfer belt. So when the sheet gets to the fuser it is still in the cyan toner cart. So you WILL see problems, yet they say it is in spec. Problems are register and cyan lines in image. To give some credit they did put a new box/unit in . But same issues just slightly better. Still unacceptable to me anyway. BUYER BEWARE. If any wants to talk about this unit feel free to ask and I will share........

If anything changes I will update ASAP..................... written 6/8/2011

Good luck Jeff K

The solution presented to me from the people above was to purchase another fuser from XANTE as the run even thicker stock. So I was sold this machine that would run 24pt. And then they turned around and said this........see the circle.!.........#*%@*&^#!@&^$#!@!^%$#@!!!!!$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!

I have a Rena Memjet ordered. It is supposed to be delivered next week. I'll give a report when I have it.
Price was $13,995. They say consumables for envelope printing is $2.77 per 1000. I've seen samples and while they are not quite toner sharp, they seem to look more like offset printing. I also have a OKI 9650 without the feeder for the highest quality envelopes but it's slow ( 25 per min.) and I can only load about 20 at a time. Speed is 9000 per hour on the Memjet on envelopes running landscape. It uses no fuser so reg window envelopes will do fine. Paper max is 9.5 x 17. the print head is 8.77 wide and is stationary. It will fully bleed 8.5 x 11 or envelopes if you run them portrait. Speed on 8.5 x 11 is 3600 per hour. Later

The Oki based machines (Xerox, Xante, PSI) all have toning issues. The stated life of consumables like drums and transfer belts is rarely realized in the real world. It's ok for things like 10pt event posters on a C1S stock, but it's not really that great at envelopes as it tends to flatten them and leave a visible crease.

Good luck with the Mach 5. It's a neat idea, but as mentioned on other topics, the quality is a little lacking.

Hi..I have been working in an offset envelope print shop for over 17 years. We just got a Xante Illumina Envelope press....highly desappointed, with the machine and most assuredly the help that corporate in Mobile, Alabama has provided.

is there any place for us to go to call and chat on how to resolve a problem other than put in new drums every other week?

please advise.....I could really use some support
