Recommended settings when calibrating Monitor??

What values are you guys using when calibrating your monitors? ( ie. white point, gamma, luminance??)

We are working on Mac computers with CRTs.

We have been using 5000K, 1.8, 80 as our settings. Any recommendations would be great!

Thanks

What software are you using to calibrate your monitors? We have Eizo LCDs, and use Color Navigator. Setting: 5500K, L* gamma, 140 luminance. We use a slightly brighter luminance because every monitor has a small light booth next to it for viewing proofs and we are trying to get a match without dimming the booth too much. Isn't a luminance of 80 pretty dim?

We are using Eye-One Match, to do our calibrations. We have several older monitors that will barely make 80 luminance, so we have them all set at that, so they are consistent across the department. Our light booths use 5000K bulbs. So other than the low luminance, does the other settings sound right? I've read that some other companies use 6500K and 2.2 gamma? Is there an industry standard? We do sheet fed 4cp on a Komori press, and some 4cp flexo work.
Thanks

5000K is proofing standard, but some monitors cannot make it. If you set to 5500 that is what "OLD" pressview monitors went on. CRT's have lower luminence than LCDs, and will also risk burning the phosphors quicker at brighter settings. Once you calibrate you shouldn't touch your brightness contrast settings without recalibrating, which is a common pitfall.

I'd say that if your monitor can barely make 80 luminance it is time to get a new monitor. Seriously, if the CRT is so degraded that it is that dim, I wouldn't think it could maintain color consistency either.

On our Eizo's, 5000K consistently looks yellow compared to the GTI booths sitting next to them. In truth 5400 is a slightly better match to the booths, but 5500 is what several vendors have recommended and only runs lightly cool.

For our monitors, we validate the profile on a monthly basis and if it's hasn't drifted significantly we don't re-profile. We end up building new profiles about every 4 months.
