Same logo, different size, different color

We print alot of envelopes on a PSI and Xante Digital Envelope Printer and have noticed that logos when printed at different sizes (particularly) smaller sizes can have very difference color characteristics. Any idea why this occurs? We are using vector art.

But i am a prepress person and my guess is that it has to do with ink densities plugging up the smaller logo? are they two different front end RIPS that might be converting the color library differently?
are they PMS or process? is the stock different? all these variables can play a part ;)

I think you answered the question for me. Seems to be items with gradients and or significant screens, sport or process and same stock. Two difference rips, but same results. Just irks me at times :)

You're also fighting against your own eyes. The size of a colored area changes your perception of the color.

The size of pixels should not affect the colour. The screen(LPI) can affect the colour if it affects the dot gain, but it the dot gain curves are done to get the same TVI, and are linked to the screens then the screen will not affect the colour.

The thickness of an envelope can affect the colour, also I have experience with substrate being different in different envelope sizes. If printing is done where the ink is fed same amount for different sizes then you are spreading the same amount of ink over larger area, but then the print operator is not doing his/her job.
