Versant 2100 Mixed Media Speed...

Has anyone else with a Versant, run a mixed media weight job? I am a little surprised at how slow it is. Our C75 is quite a bit faster. We are running 80# gloss book mixed with 80# gloss cover. On our C75 it took less than 30 seconds to change temperature. On the Versant it takes over 2 minutes. When we purchased the machine, we were told that it would be much faster on mixed media. Has anyone else experienced this?

Ran a job like that last Friday on the J75 and it ran pretty well. I didn't experience any long wait time to switch between covers. Funny thing I was running 80# Text x 12 @ 11 x 17" and 80# Cover x 1 @ 11 x 17" also.

I ran 3 page 100 copies test with:
a4 100 gsm colotech+
a4 170 gsm Colotech silk
a4 220 gsm colotech

all papers LEF

in that order.

The machine did not slow down by much.

The machine did not slow down by much.

It prints the pages and then there is a short delay before printing the cover. The long delay happens after the cover is printed, before the next book is started.

I just timed it, and the delay is 2 minutes 15 seconds.

This is a problem with most of the Xerox Presses. DC5000 was the worst.

It has to do with heating up the Fuser to the proper temperature. If the temperature is too high then the paper will be damaged, it if is too low, then the colors will be off and the toner will not fused to the paper.

If the Thermocouple in the fuser (Temp sensor) is not working properly you will have these problems. Software updates may solve this problems.

Try the following:
1- Change the Fuser

If that does not work,

2- Create Custom paper settings for Both Text and Cover

Good Luck.

P.S. Sorry about the Typos in the earlier comments. I was writing the post from my phone

Ask your tech if there is an NVM setting that you can change.

I asked. The production specialist we talked to before install, as well as the CED, stated this machine would be much faster on mixed weight media. I will see what they find out.

Someone from Xerox PMed me after posting this thread. Shortly after that we had newer software installed on our machine, and I am pleased to say that it is now running mixed media at full speed. It also seems to have improved some random color variations.

We are experiencing the opposite. Our V2100 didn't slow down when printing mixed media jobs, mainly booklets with cover stock and inside page with text or bonds. After our tech came in and "upgrade" our software for the print engine, we are experiencing extreme slow down. The engine will print one booklet and completely cycled down and restart to print the next book.... Trying to get the tech to reversed the software....

My boss is not pleased! Needless to say!

Look in the settings on the touch screen. Log in as an admin. I don't remember what it is called. Maybe productivity mode. There is something like a speed or quality priority. One changes the temp of the fuser to what it should be for each paper and the other just runs everything on the hotter temp and doesn't slow the machine down. We use that and have never had a problem.

Yeah, you need to call your tech in. Something is not right, and, I don't think it's your software. We run 28 to 36 page booklets all day, every day (our major application). On average, about 10,000 booklets per week. Running 60# Gloss Text for the inside pages, 80# Gloss Cover for the outsides, on either of our two Versant 2100's. Does not slow down a bit on the media change. Been running this same application and approximate volume since they put the V2100's in 2 years ago

Same for me here I run a lot of 80# Cover for calendars with a 60# text insert without any slow down. But I have calendar the calls for 120# Cover with an 60# text insert and it slows down terrible. So much so that I have to run that one separate.

I can find no setting like that. Maybe it is an NVM setting?

you know, i've seen the same issue on our v80, but using a different weight slipsheet. it took a massive amount of time to print them, and it looked like to me that it was definitely due to the fuser cooling down and then heating back up, depending pn the stock. i was running 280gsm gloss and 105gsm uncoated. made me crazy. does changing that setting to productivity mode lower the print quality or resolution in any way?

I usually end up setting the slip sheets to be the same weight as the body stock on our J75, even if it's 20# canary or something. The slip sheet sometimes comes out a tiny bit curled, but if the run takes even 20 minutes less than it is irrelevant.

The setting is deep in the menu's in a bit of an odd place.
Log in as admin
Hit the physical tools button
Go to tool on the touch screen
Then maintenance
Then scroll down 4 screens
There you will see productivity mode
There are 3 options. Optimize for image quality, Optimize for speed, Optimize for seed for weights over 300gsm. You want Optimize for speed.

I have only 2 screens in Maintenance, and no entry called Productivity Mode.
What is your system level software version?

Very interesting after checking the maintenance menu in Service Mode and the back into Administrator Mode I now have 4 screens. I never have seen them before. But Productivity Mode is set for Optimize for speed, I guess it needs to be set for Optimize for speed for weights over 300gsm for the 120# Cover 60#text combo.

A routine called Clean Toner. I'll have to test that as I wonder what that does.
