We get this message on saving our AI files...

Can anyone help us sort out a problem we are having?

Screen Grab is not attaching...message is: "This file has been modified outside of Illustrator Do you want to continue?"

Since upgrading to OS 10.7.5 we are encountering the attached message each time we save our AI files (CS4 and CS5). We don't get the message in any other applications, such as Photoshop. (We don't use InDesign or Quark.)

We just click through the message to no apparent problem. It sure would be nice to not have an extra mouse click, though.

I'm thinking this is a server mount issue. When we save files to the local desktop we don't get the message.

Our IT department has tried to work the problem to no success.

We use a PC file server under VMWare.

Has anyone encountered this issue?

You seem to have isolated it to the server. I know of servers generating previews and resizing photoshop files so they become 72ppi (but not loosing pixels). You need to find out what the server is doing to the file (btw are the clocks synchronised? )

You will get that message if the original Illustrator PDF has actually been modified outside of ILLY ...
such as changes made with PitStop or perhaps changes made inside a PDF workflow or changes made with Acrobat itself.
This can be very dangerous.
If you ignore changes made in PitStop - etc - you may be reverting back to a file
BEFORE someone made type changes or color changes or overprint changes - etc
without ever knowing what just happened as you opened the file.
You THINK the file opened unchanged - but - it didn't.

Sounds like that is not your situation, however.
Just something to watch out for.
