Xerox 700

I am having extreme difficulties with are 700, I am not impressed at all where on our second machine and have had the lease for 7 months now and have not been able to use it yet!

The first machine we got ran fine for a little whole the the scanner quality dropped a lot so placed a service call then the document feeder handlers crapped when the Tech went to replace that the whole machine locked down. They sales rep then decided to replace this machine.

The second 700 we received is a week old and the registration is really bad. I tried dif. trays dif. stock sizes used Xerox paper used the Paper Alignment program on the 700 didn't register to my jobs, then on the fiery I used the Align Tray function and its still not lining up at all. We also scanned a 2 sided document and tried numerous files.

The tech is stumped as to why this would be happening and is looking for answers.
 
Has the Xerox Service Specialist been out? Demand that your normal technician get them out there asap!

The Xerox recommended materials list will not have it on there so it certainly spec'ed for it. Talk to the tech who fixes your machine or if you don't have one, talk to the tech who will would service the 700 in the area, show him or her the stock and have them give you the feedback
 
We have the 700 on a demo (an upgrade from out DC250). So far I've been happy with the print quality except for black solids. The 250 puts out a nice solid black on 80# cover. However the black on the 700 (same file) is lighter and is mottled looking (not solid). We have a number of customers that I guarantee will not be happy with this black. I've talked to the tech and I know there is a setting on the RIP (Fiery EX700) to change all blacks to "rich black" but while it's more solid it's certainly not up to the quality of the black on the 250.

Another issue we are experiencing is heavy ink coverage on 80# cover while duplexing. We've checked and re-checked to make sure we are running it with the correct stock weights in the RIP but it won't fuse correctly. I spoke with our tech about this as well and his response was to run it single sided on a heavier weight (of course we can't duplex it at a heavier weight since it's only rated for 80# cover duplexing). The tech's explanation was that the moisture content of the paper (yes it's rated for digital) was coming off the paper as steam and getting caught between the paper and the heavy ink coverage. He seemed to think if we ran it single sided it would give the paper time to reabsorb the moisture prior to running the second side.

Do you think I'm being unreasonable if we tell them to pick this sucker up? I don't feel it's performing up to my expectations from all the press I've heard and what's stated in the CED (it's supposed to reliably duplex 80# coated cover). It's definitely an upgrade to our 250 except in these two areas.

is the cotton paper you have made for digital printing?

If so, then there's a good chance it will work.

If not, try it at your own risk.

Show it to your Xerox technician to get his feedback.

Xerox 700 is extremely picky on papers. Besides original Xerox papers from RML (Colotech & similar) very very few papers provide satisfactory print quality. We tested on ours over 100 different papers, out of which we use 3 :(
 
We use a Apeosport C6550 -1 for anything from business cards to 5,000 page manuals. The 6550 is great for short run colour flyers, posters, invites, wedding stationery, anything printed on paper up to 270gsm but NOT good for plastic stock.

My 700 is running up to snuff now sorry for taking so long for replying and I have learned many tricks and functions to get a great quality on the stocks I run. For the 80lb cover duplex I was having the same problem with the color fusion here are a few attachments that hopefully will help you out.

At the print shop I work at we run a 80lb recycled cover every so often and also a 80lb recycled text as well. When using the 700 and picking the recycled paper stock type the highest GSM it goes is 105 which would be a 70lb text and a 39lb cover. Would it be safe to treat the recycled stocks as a Un-coated or a Coated stock type?
 
I think I've read this whole thread now and there is a lot of really good information here.

The one thing I didn't see much talk about was Staff.

I can't stress how important this part of the puzzle is.

A good operator will make just about any machine work much better. Regardless of the manufacturer.

Anybody can sign up for a $$$$ lease and buy some paper. You still need someone who knows what they are doing to run one of these things.

I wouldn't put my secretary on one of our Heidelbergs. Nor would I put him/her on a production copier/printer.

If you do - your going to have problems that are not your vendors fault.
Don't expect them to fix that.

With regard to registration on all machines, are companies "dressing" stock on all 4 sides.

We purchase our most stocks in IPS ( 910mm x 650mm ) and trim inhouse.

Coming from 4 Colour offset presses we have always trimmed the stock on all 4 sides to ensure all edges are clean and uniform ( back cutting, ensuring all good edges are on the clamp side of the guillotine ).

We also remove top and bottom sheets of any stacks cut prior to loading into either offset or digital feeders.

Even during demo's we supplied our house stocks which we trimmed to our specifications and had no registration issues at all. We were suprised how close both the 700 and 5000 registered front to back.

Our offset ( 100gsm ) stock is supplied SRA3 cut and wrapped from the mill and is all over the place.

We trim from an average of 450mm to 448mm and 320mm to 318mm just to clean edges and uniform the size.

Pooly cut stock can affect Heidelberg offsets with mechanical lays. Most comercial printers probably do this, but a lot of the smaller offset houses have stocks pre cut by their supplier.

Prospective purchases should ask for a CED even before or at demo stage.

We received a copy of the CED well before even signing up for the 5000AP and 10 weeks prior to install of the 5000AP, which gave us plenty of time to go over what would be important to our application.

I use English measurements, so i don't know exactly what your parent sheet is that youre cutting from, but it is not recommended to trim parent sheets for digital machines.
 
They should have a course for this job at college

Some schools do offer Digital Printing degrees. Some schools also offer a Digital Printing course as part of their Graphic Design program.

We have had consistent issues with Toner being on backorder and xerox not supplying us even close to the demand that we need. Be sure they have done nothing to improve this situation for close to 6 months. Can't print without it.
 
Tell Xerox you want a refund on the number of day's your 700 is not productive! If you can't print you can't make a lease payment either!
 
Attempts to do this have been futile at best. After an hour on the phone being passed around, we are told that never happens.

I am not sure if you read the other posts on this.. one of them says its .5mm/side, second one says 1mm/side, now the Service manager for Xerox is telling me its 1.5mm/side but no one is supplying hard copy proof, who do I believe, when the machine was originally launched the xerox website had it as 1mill total shift for double sided work, now that info is missing. Currently we have a 5000AP that we just bought from them so we dont loose anymore clients till they figure out the 700.

I REALLY hope that you got this worked out. I hate to see people get screwed, especially on these things that aren't cheap.

I'd recommend not paying them anymore and telling to them to pick up their machines and shove them or your throwing them outside.

Xerox is a company that laid off thousands of technicians rather than salespeople back in the 90's...doesn't that speak volumes?

I've found that most machines are as good as their technician working on them. They're like cars, with enough parts, maint., and money you can keep them running forever.

I have to say though that buying a second machine from them is NOT what I would have done...there are so many other competing machines and service companies out there that are really good.

I have to say to the Xerox salesperson on this post that there's no reason to get heated and act so unprofessionally to the Uber guy...it just reinforces the times that we got treated like crap from Xerox salespeople.

The best thing to do is get a technicians unbiased point of view. They have to work on them and make sure everything works. They know the lemons and the good ones.

It sounds like this guy Ian is getting the BS run-around treatment and Xerox is trying to relieve itself of liability.
