Xerox Versant 180 SIQA Density Uniformity Adjustment error

Hello! First post here so be gentle!

I recently purchased a used (ex-Xerox contract user) Xerox Versant 180 with various finishers, and am running it on a self maintained basis. ( I am an ex EPSON engineer and ex IT support, so all well within my comfort zone)

Having only had it a month or so I have just about finished getting it all tuned to paper stocks and working out how the Fiery works etc.
Of course there are some minor niggles that I am seeing and want to fix.

The problems:
1: Print density seems a bit high (Colours too strong, seems like there's a little too much toner being applied).
2: There is a very, very slight yellow density difference across the page

In order to try to fix this I went into the SIQA Density Uniformity Adjustment tool and tried its auto-adjust thing, it prints out 2 colour charts (CYMK and RGB) and then you scan them - However after the scans are complete it simply states "Completed with errors" and no adjustment is made.

I can't find any way to find out what this error actually is, its like a computer saying "unknown error" - Great thanks...

Any ideas what can cause an issue here? The test pages look fine and are oriented in the scanner as per the instructional video.
I'm printing on SRA3 silk 130 (for example).

The "manual process" options are not named very well, I have managed to adjust the yellow inboard/outboard density issue, but cant figure out how to lower print density a a whole. I can't find instructions for this anywhere at all.

There are a host of options in the Fiery to lower the brightness/toner usage etc. There's also a page where you can set the defaults if you find a setting you prefer to start with as your baseline.
I do not believe there are options to turn it down on the machine as a whole, it's kindof a Xerox thing where all the colors are a bit dense and oversaturated.

Someone with more experience will have to help you with the other issues.

If you want to self maintain the printer you must look at it from service engineer point of view. You must have service manual and informations about this printer.
In XEROX copiers/printers world it is service procedure named MaxSetup for adjust density of the print, copie and others parameters.

The density uniformity is going to adjust for equal density from side to side. As a user (not in service mode), if I wanted to adjust the density of toner I would calibrate using Adjust Image Transfer under the Custom Paper Settings. You still should be able to run the Density Uniformity and that should really be done prior to running Adjust Image Transfer.

Are you receiving the error message with all paper sizes and weights? If so, even though you think you’re loading the paper correctly on the scanner, have a second look. The 2 uniformity sheets get placed on the scanner in a different orientation as the image transfer sheets. The uniformity sheets are placed so your SRA3 is hanging over the side of the scanner glass (image at top). I’m not saying that you don’t need to get into service mode, but I would look at the Adjust Image Transfer and see if that gets you closer to where you think the density of toner should be.

If I was self servicing one of these I would want the service manual on hand.

Somewhere you should have a reset to factory default for Uniform Density. If print density is too high then the SIQA Density Uniformity Adjustment tool might throw an error that is why it should be reset back to factory default before running the SIQA Density Uniformity Adjustment tool.

Thanks for the answers so far -
- Regarding the service manual, yes it's top of my list to get hold of, but would like recommendations on where to get from?
- Thanks Ttngcas, I'll have a look at the Brightness setting, presumably that will lower toner density....?
- TJPrinter, I've not actually looked at Adjust Image Transfer yet, However I'm looing for a machine level setting really, not per paper stock. Regarding the error, in the density uniformity settings it's machine level so not per paper, I have tried a few different types just in-case but to no avail. Yes I'm definitely orienting the test prints correctly.
- DYP, interesting thought, will have a look.

Thank you!
