Z6100 Color changing dramatically under different lighting

I have been printing with a HPz6100 I notice whit the two papers I use (HP Premium photo paper & 3rd party white photo paper) The gray will shift on the green magenta direction depending on the color of the light. After we make a profile and view it in our lighting booth it looks perfect. I expect the light conditions to change the color but what we are seeing is very dramatic, it almost make the print unusable for color critical applacations. We do not have this problem with our UV or sublimation printers. Can anyone offer us a solution?
Thank You.

Are you printing through a RIP and profiling as CMYK?

If you are, you need a mega dose of GCR. You practically can't give it too much.

Thanks for the suggestion, however it did not seem to work. I am using a caldera rip. I use the same rip with a HP_Scitex UV printer and not not have the problem. I did try print only using the black and gray inks and the results are great. I did discover it is not only grays that shift but also colors close to gray. For example I was trying to match a light green tile and depending on the viewing light it was very different. As I said earlier I do expect colors to change depending on the viewing light, but what I and seeing with this printer is a drastic change.

What are you using to create your profile? What settings are you using for GCR?

Bret

We are using Caldera easymedia to create the profiles. The program works great on the other devices. The GCR settings are "GCR3, Black start 30% Black max 100% Max ink 350%.

I am suspecting this has something to do with the ink and how it reflects light when on the paper. I see it on a matte paper also but to a lesser degree.

Is there a max GCR, or anything higher than GCR3? Also try starting the black at 0% This will get lighter colors and use a whole lot more black to produce most colors. On inkjet devices with light black or gray inks, the black starting in the highlight should not be a problem.

Hi
I just want to get back to you and let you know setting the separations to Max Black worked great. Everything looks neutral in all lighting conditions.
Thanks

Unlike presses, many inkjets seem to respond well using profiles built with a zero K start and very heavy GCR with 400% total ink settings (even more so if they have light black ink options).
