Introduce yourself!

Hey

Hey

Hey Y’all;
My name is Melissa and I am the press department manager for a medium size business in Oakland, CA. I have been in the industry over 20 years; initially started with darkroom and paste-up at East Brunswick Vo-Tech in New Jersey (1984 grad).
My company, Clampswing Pricing, is a huge supplier of all of the little signs you see at the grocery store; in the meat dept., bakery, deli, etc. We also make the metal pegs for the peg boards that things hang on; we manufacture the metal and plastic extrusions that hold all the little shelf signs that we make; plus all kinds of miscellaneous crap. Our clients are all over the US; Safeway, Winn Dixie, Albertson’s, Publix, and on and on. This is a very cool shop with machines and technologies dating back to the 20’s; and a great crew of folks that keep it all going. Think of me when you go shopping; you can call me “m” or “mjnc”.
This forum rocks! I cannot believe how much help I have gotten from just the week I’ve been here. Thanks to you all - have a great weekend!

Uh-oh...Newbie in the house!

Hi everyone! Just joined up and I already know it was a wise choice. Nothing beats learning from others in the print trade. I can only get better at what I do. At least I hope so!

I work as a prepress operator for a Sacramento area commercial printer. I've been in printing for 17 years, but that's meaningless. Every day feels like day one at school!

I look forward to learning more from everyone here, and hopefully, on occasion, I may be able to help others out.

Old parts never die, they just fade away.

Old parts never die, they just fade away.

Hi All,

My company name is gumbow and I am located in Bow NH. I'm a one man show. I run 3 imagesetters and 2 processors in my office. I am a graduate of the RIT scool of printing and my family has been involved in graphic arts in all areas for generations. I am actively looking for a digital board for a Heidelberg Quicksetter 4500 (Ultre). Other than that it seems I have been in this business forever. I've done time in estimating departments, on press both sheetfed and web, done stripping and contacting, worked in the bindery, drove the trucks and even cleaned a bathroom or two for the extra cash. If any body can help me contact Ultre I would be greatful. I think I'll stick around anyway. Seems like a good group of people.

Thanks,
Richie

Hy, my name is juan carlos, i am from panama rep of panama, i am new in the printing industry (digital printing) i always have an interest for this industry and now decided to start my oun print shop. I work with a xerox dc 260 and a ricoh hq digital duplicator. I will appreciate any information about the industry or recomendations, also need literature recomendation.

Hello...I'm a retired industrial electrician formally working for a fine paper company in northern Canada, and am getting the feeling I am about to jump in the deep end of this pool.
The church we have been attending recently aquired an old Heidelberg GTO 46 press from a now defunct printshop. This "cadillac" is supposed to replace their old printer which they have been using to print small booklets. The first hurdle that involved me was the electrical schematic showed this was a 3 phase powered machine, and naturally their shop was single phase. I managed to dodge that bullet but now they have a new stone wall...that being their plate generators unwillingness to respond to the computer.
I don't get around well any longer and the only component I have actually seen is a Linotype-Hell Postscript RIP 50, which from what I have been able to gather so far must take images from the Desktop computer and process them into something the plate generator can use to create a plate....stop laughing....I'm new at this OK? I'm hoping to get to see this desktop and plate generator sometime in the next few weeks. So far noone has been able to find any software or manuals for this equipment so at the moment I'm just kicking stones around.
I realize their best bet would be to hire someone from Heidelberg to sort all this out...but like all small churches , money is a problem. So...if anyone here would care to help me out I'd be much abligued...things like cable connections, manuals and software would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Barry

Re: Introduce Yourself!

Re: Introduce Yourself!

My name is Ben, and I have worked in the industry for almost 22 years now.

London, Ontario Canada has been my home base of operations, I have worked the whole gammit, from Customer Service, PrePress, Estimating, Press, and Bindery.

Bindery had been my main source of income for the last number of years. I had the mispleasure of running a Century 3000 for awhile, it subtracted about 5 years off my deathclock.

Currently I have made the leap into being PrePress and Pressroom Supply Rep, and for me, this seems to be a nice fit so far. I get to meet great people, see how other shops are doing things, and try and offer some advice and great products to help them on their journey through the colour bars.....:)

I look forward to visiting PP and perhaps finding answers to questions/problems that are nagging the people I visit, and perhaps even offering some of my own "wisdoms" gained along the way....

Hi all...:)

I work at prepress....
I am happy to be with you all in this forum
and can exchange experiences...:)

Hello,
My name is Loel. I have been a press operator since 1981, Didde, Harris, Sanden open web.
I started running business forms in the early 80's. Mostly short run Check printing. Moved to a company in 1996 that ran mostly direct mail, lots of 4 color, and long runs that always were due in the mail yesterday. Recently working for Scantron printing scantron forms, easy work with really long runs, some forms were over 13 million a month.

Hobbies? I like photography, genealogy, woodturning and web designing.

hello all. found your forum by looking for fusionpro information, but having been in prepress for about 20 years i found myself clicking around enough to register.

currently i run an inplant printshop at a college in sacramento ca where we have a ripit (now xanté) platesetter which feeds a small hamada and a heidelberg qm-46. we also have a nuvera 120, wcp-90, and a canon clc 1180 with a fiery rip. all that i've got a pretty firm grasp of, however last year i purchased efi digital storefront & fusionpro which is an entirely different animal.

outside of all that, i'm in the process of rebuilding a '72 triumph 750 trident triple with nothing computerized on it whatsoever--just resistors & diodes. =)

Introduction:

Occasionally a business contact will ask: Who are you?
Good question:) Having made thousands of business contacts over the years individuals slip past out of one's memory.

In 1995 I entered the Printing and Publishing world by launching the Computer To Plate Pressroom. In 1997 DAX acquired CTPP. It was then rolled into a family of gated e-forums at PrintPlanet com.

PrintPlanet com was subsequently acquired by Printable Technologies Inc.
I was Managing Director PrintPlanet from 1997 through August of 2007

Over the years I often fielded the question: just what is it you do? Only recently I discovered that some friends tell me I am in the field of knowledge management and social networking.

I have accomplished my success while working without walls networking businesses and individuals around the world, on every continent. For fifty years self education and up-skilling have served me well.

Currently self employed.

My name is Laura Minter. I am part owner of a smal prepress supply company in South Africa. I started my trade as a photolithographer and specialised as a colour retoucher after qualifying. Did training at a Printing College based in Honeydew, South Africa for three and a half years and then went to Agfa to work for them as a prepress software specialist. We started this company 11 years ago because myself and my husband felt that the "big boys" only drop "boxes" (filmsetters/platesetters) and are not concerned with how the file gets from the front end to the press. We do everything from supplying consumables and hardware to contract proofing and colour management on the press.
Seems like I am the only women on this forum? WHy is that?
