Hello everyone,
New to the site but have been in printing for over 20 years. My name is Robert and I am the maintenance tech at an in-plant shop. My main expereance is on Heidelbergs SM102,CD102, and now learning the XL105 with a roll feed. I do work on other equipment such as SABER, KLUGE,MBO, and some HP. I am looking forward to chatting and exchanging information with everyone.

My name is Keith and I am the general manager of a UK based small company called Plural Education. We employ 12 people and supply exercise books and teaching resource to education, specialising in bespoke personalised exercise books for mostly independent schools.

I am always looking to improve production and quality and frequently look at new and second hand kit which is why I am here, as I require informed opinion on print and print related equipment the sort of stuff the salesman cannot tell you!

Hi All,

I have been with been with Plaspro in the UK for 3 years, we are suppliers of Plastics for the print and packaging market.
I have joined Print Planet as we have recently begun working within the digital market supplying coated polyesters, polypropylenes, polycarbonates and more. This is a big step for me as I have been used to conventional printing methods previously.

I am sure that this forum will help me to learn more and I hope that I can help some of you with my knowledge of plastics.

I have read this site for years but just signed up. I have worked in a pressroom for over 35 years and the industry has really changed during this time period. I currently work 3rd shift for a company that has [three] 40 inch six color Heidelbergs and a 20 inch 5 color heidelberg, all of the presses have coaters. One of the 40 inch press is set up to run UV inks. we print a variety of things. Looking forward to being involed with some of the discussions here on the board......... Bill

I've been working at Heidelberg for over 14 years now. I primarily work with Print Color Management in regards to Heidelberg Presses with and without our workflow. I work with our press instructors to standardize, optimize and calibration with a particular focus on educating the customer.

I've been in the industry over 25 years now with different focuses such as screenprinting, prepress and press management.

They call us PreMedia here. Dont ask why. 25 years in prepress. Started out shooting camera and hand developing film. I learned quickly why you put the water in before the acid in your stop bath.
All digital these days. Including our presses. 4 indigos and 1 old DI.
We handle a lot of direct mail adv. Variable data, images one off and monthly production. Iway, HP Director, DirectSmile, YTD, FusionPro and all the essentials.
Single father, 2 teenage boys. Compete in powerlifting at a national level and still whoop the pants off of the kids at 46.

I'm new to this forum, which I'm joining to learn more about the print industry.
Qoppa Software designs and delivers software to do things with PDF documents.
Some of our customer base comments led me to want to learn more about your issues and tools.
Our products run on all platforms and we include preflight checking that ... well, I'll save that for my response to the thread that first brought me here.
My background is in selling technology - years with hardware vendors (Sperry Univac, Nixdorf Computers, Sun Microsystems), then services delivery (Rolta), and now pure software for all platforms.
I tend to get fascinated by the technology I'm helping deliver, and thus am ready to learn more about printing, the transfer of documents and images between parties, and more.

Hi everyone,
My name is Chris, I'm Canadian. I moved to Egypt 15 years ago. I'm co-owner of a small network of regional websites. I have a lot of experience in web but almost none in print.

We have decided to produce a regional community magazine to cover our town and I am researching where/how to start this project.

We are a very small team (5 people) and small budget; but with large aspirations!

The fun part about living in a place like this is that "anything" is possible. Starting a company or project such as a magazine can be done regardless of experience or education.

The problems come when you are trying to educate yourself. There are no public libraries, or local colleges/universities which might offer training. So of course the best place to look, is online.

What I'm searching for from this post, is to hopefully find some nice people who are willing to impart some wisdom or guide me in the correct direction to find training.

I'd like to find the best methods of managing the magazine. We have freelance writers, 1 editor (with experience), a graphic designer (also with experience), 2 professional photographers, a web programmer and myself. I'm an experienced manager and good at multitasking, but have zero experience as chief editor.

So far I have found the following software: PlanSystem (quadsystems & Van Gennap), onlineredactie dot nl..... and few others which I briefly skimmed.

I'm certain it's possible to begin with a bunch of excel sheets and word, but seems messy and confusing.

So, that's me, and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction, because we are going ahead with this project nevertheless, and I'd love to get it right from the beginning!

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jim I have worked in commercial printing for over 30 years. I was a graphics cameraman (as long as that position lasted). Now I take care of our CTP system. We use Preps 5.33 and Creo platesetter. I basicly have learned the printing industury three times. I studied commercial art in the early 70s. I have worked in the camera room, art room, paste up, design, computer design using InDesign and Publisher, bindery, sales, pressman... too much to remember :)

I do have a question. As I stated, we are using Perps 5.33. The problem I have is Preps will not allow a head to foot template to be build (even though this is listed in the choice box). Does anyone know why? Or maybe a work-around this problem.

I've used this site for years, never joined 'til now. Been in offset printing for 30 yrs. (too long). Used Prinergy/Preps at my last offset place. Got laid off last year and went the flexo route. We're using Esko Deskpack with AI plug-ins. We run an 8-color Uteco Oxyx that is off-site (TX). I prep/layout/trap files (with help from Power Trapper) from our Denver, CO facility. Nice change to be away from the hustle and bustle (and stink) of the pressroom, but then again, it's not so bad, either.

Hi everybody, I am new here!

Let me introduce myself proper my name is Jenny (23) and I am from the Netherlands
I work in a printing bussnis with 3 locations where I work in the centre of Amsterdam.

Currently I work with a Xerox 700 (new to me, only had it for 3 a 4 months now) and A HP X6100 Designjet (I use to have a HP5500 too but that one was moved just last week)

Prior to this I worked with a Oce CS 650 and a Varioprint 1150, within out company we also have a Xerox 1000 with replaces the Kodak Nexpress. We have a Oce Arizona flatbed printer and several construcion drawings machine's (color and black/white) we have one offset printer.

I have not been working for long in this industry but within this company i travelled through machines and locations, So I did get to pick up from everything a little bit. Right now My closest co-worker is not excactly a 'bright light' so I am left in the dark most of the days, lucky for me I learn more from just finding it all out myself!

Like I said haven't been working in this industry long, but got a love and passion about it already.

I do hope I can keep on learning and growing and joining this forum and reading and sharing experiences can be helpfull at all times.
