Hi,
My names Matt and I am the proprietor of a Printing business in the UK.
I have been printing for around 28 years, alongside seven years as a Papermaker, and Manufacturing Process Engineer..

I studied at the London College of Printing, Elephant and Castle, London, and later at Mid Kent College, Rochester, UK.

We run, Letterpress, Litho,Thermography, Hotfoil, Screen, Screen Textile, Tampo, as well as Digital process' and finishing operations. Pretty much the full deck of process'. I just hate having to say "sorry we can't print that".

Printing is my obsession, restoring presses my hobby. came across this forum whilst looking for AB Dick spares and got sidetracked into reading posts. If I can add any advice or suggestions to the posts I will try my best.

Hi my name is Michael, I come from Germany and live and work in the Irish Country side
for about 20 years.
I have a small Business working from home. I run a 1c Grosser Tiegel Offset 46 with conventional Dampening and conventional plates. I have a few Macs and do some artwork and typesetting myself. I have basic post press equipment for cutting, stitching and punching.
At the moment I am trying to create a second line in Textile Printing with a Cutting Plotter and a Heat Press.
I usually do basic jobs like Raffle Tickets, Docket Books etc.
I have done 3 or 4 Process Jobs on this press but effort compared to profit was not great
so I give these jobs to the trade printers.
A long time ago I have served an Apprenticeship in sheet offset and have I worked a few years on web fed press.

Hi my name is Lisa I have worked for MMI for 20 years gone thru many changes in the last 20 years. Located in Green Bay WI.

Went from paste up on compugraphics, to Macs to film, and now direct to plate. What a different world.

We run 2 heidelberg presses here and using Acento S platesetter, and the Azura TS plates.

We have been having trouble with scratches in the TS plates. We catch the scratches as the plates go into the plate holder. Very different spots, plates never get to the rack so the scratching is not happening there. Just wondering if anyone has this problem.

Hello all, Gary here,in the trade for 40 something years. Did alot of depts. Managed a pressroom and now back to pressman. At least I'm on the inside looking out. Met alot of talented people and learned a great deal from each. Still play softball and officiate football, and also fit in golf.

hi, iam ananta from Indonesia, im new in this forum.and sorry if my english not so good.. ok i work on multimedia printing.i have a wife, n a funny son about 11month.my work has strated for 2 years till now.and we have 1 ghong zeng plotter, 1 nova jet indoor plotter, 1 cutting machine 60cm.and 3 r230 epson printer.we used AMD processor x2. well thts it .if anyone can help us with the ghong zeng software or hardware...please let me kno...thx u before....

I am also doing construction type of electrical work, such as Power around
Your plant, power for new machines and any other electrical
Work you might need in your plant.
Install new panels for power.
Move old panels.
Run emt. And or pipe for feeders.
Any size circuits. (20 amps and up).
Control wiring of any kind.

All type of commercial electrical work.

My name is Jeff, I'm from Rogers, MN. I've been in the printing biz for about 14 years or so. Mostly been with smaller shops and spent a year with a big trade show custom display company with an in-house large format graphic dept. Most of my experience is in electronic prepress. I also do some design work and have experience with sign production as well.

I've been at this shop for about 1-1/2 years now and the biggest challenge so far has been getting both the MAC workstations updated to the latest versions of software. One MAC is almost current with the exception of being on CS4. The other is about 2 full versions behind (which makes absolutely no sense to me!). The guy that ran this dept before me didn't really know how to run it. They just showed up and put in their 8 hours! Back-up was terrible and archiving even worse. We now have a 1TB file server that backs up nightly and also have an off-site drive. It's looking better every day.

We are now looking in to purchasing new Macs because the machines we have are pre-Intel and can't upgrade to Adobe CS5. The running bill keeps growing! We're thinking of going iMac and beefing them up with memory & processing power.

Just hoping to get some good pointers here and do my best to give some out as well!

That is a good question, but why is it a $64,000 question?
The honest answer is because we are stuck in our ways. I would have to really dig for a reason I think. Something to consider...

My Name is Hassan Shareef and it took my 45 years to get here.

I am the prepress Manager for Obeikan Folding Cartons, located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I work there 11 months out of the year and spend my one month vacation in my hometown of Brooklyn, NY (We Go Hard!) or my adopted hometown of Delray Beach, FL.

I started in the prepress industry working for a "color separation" house in NY in the 80's and stayed with them for over 20 years before being offered a position in Riyadh, in 2003. The move wasn't difficult. My name is Hassan, after all.

I have worked with all of the major prepress systems (Kodak, Esko, Artpro, etc) and major asset is my ability to work with a diverse group of people. At Obeikan it's like the United Nations.

On my off time, I like to beat up on my 15 year old son at Madden NFL. He took a 72-71 butt whooping from me the last time we played. I also have a daughter and a Ball and Chain who I love very much.

My name is Angelo. I am a Graphic Communications instructor at a technical high school. I have over 20 years experience teaching as well as about the same in the industry as a production manager of a newspaper chain (web offset). Prior to that I ran a design studio and did print ads.

Due to tight budgets, I am truly amazed at the differences between the field and education. If something is needed in industry you just go get it. In education you either beg, borrow, steal or do without. Sad.

I am proud of my career as an educator with a past in design and production. I am certified to teach college level. I am/was a member of many professional, trade, and computer organization.
